Committee, Karen Janowski, School Committee Liaison, John Feudo, Recreation Administrator, Jenna Fiorente, Recreation Program Coordinator Guest: Benjamin Westerman, Eagle Scout E. Hughes called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM. M. Stolecki made a motion to accept the minutes from the July 10, 2012 meeting. K. Kaminer seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor of acceptance by a vote of 5 -0 -0. Ben Westerman of the Boy Scouts presented a proposal for benches at Sturges Park. While they are not the standard the committee liked the idea of putting benches at the park. J. Feudo stated the final approval would need to be made by the Board of Selectmen. J. Feudo said he would set Mr. Westerman up with a meeting with the Town Manager. J. Feudo presented Carl McFadden's request through RBC to use amplified sound for the purpose of the flag football league opening night on 9/15 from 4:30 — 8:30 PM on the Stadium Field. They were requesting sound for a DJ and announcements. K. Janowski made a motion to allow RBC the use of amplified sound for the hours of 4:30 — 8:30 PM Saturday, September 15th on the Stadium Field. K. Kaminer seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor of the motion by a vote of 5 -0 -0. J. Fiorente gave an update on programming. She reported on final summer camp numbers and gave an overview of the early participation rates for the Fall program. She also mentioned that staff would be looking for volunteer assistance with travel basketball tryouts for evaluation and check in. J. Feudo and J. Fiorente talked to the committee about the new program magazine and its contents. J. Feudo handed out the most recent draft of the facilities agreement. The committee felt the there was a lack of balance in the agreement when you consider that the Rec. Division pays out for maintenance of fields as well. K. Kaminer felt the 5% increase annually was dangerous and could really be an issue in a few short years. K. Janowski mentioned it would be a good idea for the READING RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES September 11th, 2012 Recreation Committee to invite the Assistant Superintendent to a meeting next June to get a better understanding of the school departments prospective. R. Hand gave an update for the latest RCASA meeting he attended. RCASA was awarded a 50K grant for 4 years for reducing underage drinking initiatives. The police reported a limited number of underage drinking issues for the summer. The needle dispoal unit was moved from Town Hall to the police station. RCASA's annual meeting is being held on September 27th at 7 PM at the Reading Performance Arts Center. R. Hand also asked the committee to brainstorm some ideas of how the Town might be able to help create awareness of the substance abuse policy for freshman through recreation. The thought was once the school year ends in the 8`h grade; students become freshman and thus are bound by the policy. J. Feudo recommended that the schools do an end of the year meeting with all 8th graders. M. Stolecki made a motion to adjourn. K. Kaminer seconded the motion.
