Committee Member, John Feudo, Recreation Administrator Members - Not Present: Frank Driscoll, Mike DiPietro, Sean Whalen Others Present: Genevieve Fiorente, Caroline Korwin, Emma Penafiel, Grace Godwin, Alana Dispanera, Chris Barlow, Brent Colson; Lorraine Salter Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: John Feudo Topics of Discussion: R. Hand opened the meeting at 7:08 PM. J. Feudo introduced several Silver Award Candidates from the Girl Scouts. They presented a project called peace poles which are universal signs of peace. The group was seeking the Recreation Committee input on location for the peace poles. During the presentation is was stated that they had contacted the Parker Middle School Administration and they were interested in having them placed in front of the School. The committee felt these poles needed to be in traffic, low vandalism areas. The committee thanked the girl scouts for their initiative and encouraged them to consider doing more around the community. M. Stolecki entered the meeting at 7:20 PM. N. Swain made a motion to endorse and support troops 710290 and 758043 peace pole project at Parker Middle School. K. Kaminer seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor by a vote of 6 -0 -0. The committee reviewed the minutes from May and February. N. Swain made a motion to accept the May 2014 meeting minutes. K. Kaminer seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor by vote of 6 -0 -0. M. Stolecki made a motion to accept the February 2014 meeting minutes. N. Swain seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor by vote of 6 -0 -0. Page 1 1 2013 -09 -03 Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes RESERVE A GAME J. Feudo introduced the staff from Reserve a Game. Brent Colson and Chris Barlow explained that they have been working on a startup platform to address the need for tennis players to reserve tennis courts. The program offers many functional features such as ability to manage in -town and out of town players requests. Players may cancel reservations up to 24 Hours in advance for a full refund. Reserve a Game provides a troubleshooting line folks can call for assistance. The program can be done free of charge as an introduction. After that, the courts can be charged for. Once pricing is established, reserve a court with collect and handle all cash flow and simply cut the town a check at the end of each month with a usage report. J. Feudo stated he really liked the idea. He was still wrestling with how to infuse this program with the current monitoring system that is in place. J. Feudo stated there were three options: 1. Roll out just for pass holders 2. Start in Septembers after passes expire 3. Start with Weekends only The committee asked many questions to the Reserve A Game staff. The product is mobile device ready. The committee asked about publicity. RAG will provide prefabricated signage to put at the courts. M. Stolecki made a motion to table the issue until the next meeting. N. Swain seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor of tabling the issue by a 6 -0 -0 vote. ADMINISTRATORS REPORT G. Fiorente gave an overview of summer programs and mentioned that the numbers for Jr. camp were especially strong. Otherwise the summer program numbers were all rolling in. She listed a variety of programs including Tennis, Basketball, Track, Color Guard and summer concerts to name a few. J. Feudo mentioned he had been working on finalizing a few projects. The lights at Memorial Park should be installed by September. The new playground at Birch Meadow will also be completed. Washington park is out to bid, the Town is waiting on results. RCASA R. Hand mentioned that the Board of Health voted to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products in Reading from 18 to 21. Also, 'The Anonymous People" movie screening was a success. 119 people attend the event and a panel discuss was held at the conclusion of the movie. Finally the committee Held brainstorming session to inform and educate the community about the risk of underage drinking. K. Kaminer made a motion to adjourn. N. Swain seconded the motion.
