READING RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES
March 19, 2013 TOWN HALL — CONFERENCE ROOM
Attendance: Nancy -Linn Swain, Vice -Chair Rec. Committee, Karen Janowski, School Committee
Rep., Eric Hughes, Rec. Chairman, Adam Chase, Rec. Committee Member, Richard Hand,
Recreation Committee Member, Mary Ellen Stolecki, Rec. Committee Member, John Feudo,
Recreation Administrator
E. Hughes called the meeting to order at 7:09 PM.
N. Swain made a motion to accept the minutes from the January 2013 meeting. R. Hand seconded
the motion. Motion passed in favor of the motion by a vote of 4 -0 -1.
J. Feudo introduced John Halsey who was here to present a proposal for a shed at Morton Field for
equipment. The need for the shed was basically help store extra field materials such as rakes,
drying agents, field drags etc. It would also make them more accessible as they are currently
housed in the red bunker. This would be done at no cost to the Town; Halsey added and would be a
gift from the Reading Baseball Club and Babe Ruth. The shed is expected to be the same exact size
as the shed currently at the tennis courts (8'X 6' X 8').
N. Swain expressed concern with kids climbing on the new shed with it directly next to the
backstop.
A long discussion ensued. The committee discussed different locations for the shed. They
recommended moving it to the left wing of the backstop so it did not obstruct the view from behind
the plate. J. Halsey seemed to be ok with the concept.
M. Stolecki made a motion to accept the plan as presented by Reading Baseball Club with the edit
of moving the location of the shed to left side of the backstop and to send the proposal to the Board
of Selectmen.
K. Janowski seconded the motion.
Motion passed in favor of the motion by a vote of 5 -0 -0.

N. Swain made a motion to grant an amplified sound permit to Reading Babe Ruth Baseball for
5/25 at Morton field from 9 AM — 5 PM with the recommendation of positioning the speakers away

Special Sunday Morning Request Reading Youth Lacrosse
J. Feudo presented two dates Reading Youth Lacrosse requested for early start. May 19th and June
9`h both were requested. J. Feudo explained to RYL that the committee only grants one per season.
RYL asked if it could be presented as a variance to the policy. The Recreation Committee felt
granting two permits was setting a bad precedence. N. Swain made a motion to approve the May
19th early start request for 10:OOAM. And advised RYL to look for an alternatives for June 9th
request. R. Hand seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor of the motion by a vote of 5 -0 -0.
