Committee Member, Sean Whalen, Associate Member, John Feudo, Recreation Administrator Members - Not Present: Frank Driscoll, Mary Ellen Stolecki, Karen Janowski Others Present: Genevieve Fiorente Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: John Feudo Topics of Discussion: R. Hand opened the meeting at 7:04 PM. September 2013 Minutes - N. Swain Motion, K. Kaminer second. 6 -0 -0 in favor of accepting the September 2013 Minutes. Town Civil Engineer Arthur Markos presented the Washington Park Master Plan with two options for renovations of courts. He mentioned the walkway would be stamped concrete and the courts would be brand new. They will also need to relocate a water line to install the new water fountain. A long discussion ensued by the committee. The committee discussed the possibility of re- orientating the basketball court to go north to south to have less impact on the neighboring houses. It was also recommended to keep the court as close to the path as possible without impacting the established trees. J. Feudo mentioned that the timeline would be a public hearing in November and pending approval, out to bid by the 15Y of the year with the hopes of breaking ground in March. A. Chase made a motion to accept the Washington Park plan as noted as plan #2 with the changes as proposed above reflecting the rotation of the basketball court. K. Kaminer seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor of accepting the Washington Park plan as noted as plan #2 with the changes as proposed above reflecting the rotation of the basketball court by a vote of 6 -0- 0. Page i 1 2013 -09 -03 Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes Administrators Report Some may have heard about the proposed reorganization of the Town. As part of that proposal Recreation as a human service, would be moving back under the Community Services Department. As it has been explained, not much would be changing in terms of day to day operation of the Recreation Division. The physical location of the Rec Division will likely change but has yet to be determined. The proposal will go before Town Meeting in November, if it is passed then the move would happen sometime around the new year. J. Feudo mentioned that he and the town manager met with the town administrator in Wakefield about the possibility of regionalization of Recreation. The conversations are premature and surface by nature at this point. However, several members of the Recreation committee with be meeting with members of the Wakefield Commission to discuss concerns and possibilities. G. Fiorente gave a programming update. She mentioned that signups were strong for many programs. She mentioned she would be looking for some help with travel basketball evaluations if anyone is interested. She also mentioned that the Halloween parade was coming up and she would also love for some help with that as well. Finally she gave an update regarding Travel Basketball. She mentioned that Reading is now in the MetroWest League which will be able to accommodate both the multiple number of teams as well as the level of play that matches Reading. A. Chase made a motion to adjourn. E. Hughes seconded the motion. Motion passed in favor of adjournment by a vote of 6 -0 -0. Meeting adjourned at 8:21 PM.
