Topics of Discussion:
The Board brainstormed ideas regarding what Elder Services core services are. Resulting
ideas: Transportation, Socialization, Nurse Advocacy, Meals, Shine, Information and
Referrals, Health Care Counseling, Educational Programs, Special Events, Volunteer
Coordination, Case Management/Social Support, Caregiver Support, Other Counseling.
The Board agreed that the core services fall under three categories of how to achieve them:
At the Pleasant Street Center, Through Social Services or Both.
The Board consolidated the list down to the core services that Elder Services needs to
provide. At the Pleasant Street Center: Meals /Socialization, transportation, education and
wellness. Under the Social Service category: Limited Case management, limited shine and
counseling. Inclusive of both the Pleasant Street Center and the Social Service category:
Information /Referrals, coordination of volunteers and nurse advocacy /limited skill nursing.
Administrator pointed out that when assessing if a position is vital or not it is important to
look at the job description and not the job performance.
The Board's final conclusion regarding what services the Board would want to provide was:
At the Pleasant Street Center: Meals /Socialization, transportation and education /wellness
programs. Under the Social Service category: Shine and counseling. Inclusive of both the
Pleasant Street Center and the Social Service category: Information /Referrals, coordination
of volunteers and nurse advocacy /limited skilled nursing.
The Board agreed that the Board's wish list would Include: Improving meals,
renovating /painting the inside of the Pleasant Street Center, trips, a custodian for the
Pleasant Street Center and long term planning for seniors.
