Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Joan Boegel
Topics of Discussion:
• Review and approve minutes of recent meeting. The committee voted to approve
minutes of the 7/23/2014 meeting as written by Joan Boegel.
• Reading Library Building Project. Joan spoke with Jessie Wilson in the Town Planning
office to ask whether detailed library Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing plans are
available for review. Ms. Wilson informed Joan that the CPDC does not have these
detailed plans yet. Joan had not yet arranged for a meeting with Library Building
Committee chairman David Hutchinson. She will try contacting him to set up a
meeting for an evening during the week of August 19.
• Electric Vehicle Charging Station. Laurie Ann Sylvia reported that ChargePoint came
in to RMLD to do a demonstration. It was very good. RMLD is working with Analog
Devices in Wilmington to put in one EV charging station for their employees. The
grant that RMLD has is for businesses only, not municipal. David stated that our
committee is interested in helping to find a suitable business in Reading to
participate. No action for us at this time.
• Recycling Bin for MF Charles Building and nearby businesses. Ron D'Addario spoke
with Michele Benson this morning. They considered the area behind the Northern
Bank but it is too small and walled off. Other businesses need access. Ron talked to
Town Manager Bob LeLacheur. There is a possibility of working with CVS. Ron has
not yet checked with JRM to make sure they are still agreeable to providing the
recycling bin and free pickup of paper /cardboard. Ron will contact JRM about this.
Follow -up for selectmen on Climate Adaptation Plan. David has arranged for 15
minutes at Board of Selectmen's meeting - September 23 - to discuss our Reading
Climate Adaptation Plan. Paula Schena will need a copy of our slides in advance for
the "Selectmen's Packet" which she prepares. The Committee reviewed and
commented on slide presentation which Michele had formatted with content from
Ron and David. Michele will revise the PowerPoint based on our discussion and send

it to David so that he can add notes. As Chair of our committee, David will do the
presentation.
Solarize Reading. Laurie Ann reported that she spoke with a woman at the Concord
Municipal Light Dept. about Concord's experience with Astrum Solar. Astrum did a
number of projects in Concord but they were not solicited by the light department.
The feedback was neutral - Astrum Solar is one of many companies in this business.
Laurie Ann decided not to invite Astrum Solar to a committee meeting. Neither RMLD
nor our Committee should endorse a single company due to liability concerns. The
committee discussed and agreed to considering having a Solar Fair or Renewable
Energy Fair for our next Earth Day event in April 2015. Laurie Ann will check with
RMLD on the use of the RMLD building for such an event.
New Business.
o Gina reported that Winchester's Sustainability Committee and another town
group called Sustainable Winchester worked with Winchester Cooperative
Bank to develop a program geared to helping low income senior citizens do
energy audits and finance follow -up projects through low cost loans. Ron
D'Addario suggested that we should find out whether Council on Aging would
support this kind of program. If so, our committee would be willing to work
with the banks in Reading. Committee agreed we would like to learn more
about the Winchester program.
o David reported on a meeting he had been to at Covanta.
