Board - Committee - Commission - Council: Cultural Council Date: 2014 -09 -08 Building: Pleasant Street Senior Center Address: 49 Pleasant Street Purpose: Business Attendees: Members - Present: 2914 OCT 28 A 10: 30 Time: 7:00 Location: Arts and Crafts Room Session: Peggy Caouette, Nancy Snow, Donna Schenkel, Maryann Kozlowski, Catherine Folan, Rosemary Lewis Members - Not Present: Jacalyn Shelton Wallace Others Present: Lynne Cassinari Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Rosemary Lewis Topics of Discussion: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Pleasant Street Senior Center by acting Chairperson, Peggy Caouette. Minutes of the May meeting were read and approved. Cate reported that the Treasurer's report will not be finalized until the end of this week, therefore, the report will be emailed to members as soon as possible. There was an expenditure of $20 for the ad in the Reading Recreation Catalog. Lynne reported that she received a call from someone who saw the ad; so it was effective. The Slate of Officers was presented and there was discussion about the number of members. Massachusetts Cultural Commission requires a minimum of 5 active members. The Town of Reading restricts membership to 7 members. Donna stated she knew another person who may be interested in volunteering which would bring us up to full membership. At the close of this meeting, Peggy will be finished with her term. After discussion, the motion to approve the slate of officers was seconded and approved. The schedule for upcoming meetings in 2014 was discussed and it was decided to move the October meeting to 10/27/14 so that grant applications would be in and could be disseminated to members. Applicants will be invited to the November 3 d meeting. Donna and Nancy will contact applicants to invite them. Cate has a meeting arranged with the Town Accountant 9/16/14 to complete the LCC audit form. Lynne reported that the Annual Report is due Jan. 15, 2015. Reading Website and the MCC website need to be updated with current members and officers. Cate will update the town website; Donna will update the MCC website. Signs about application deadline were presented to the committee. They will be posted on Reading Common from Noon 9/29 to Noon 10/13/14. Peggy offered to handle this. Page 1 1 Letters to promote applications from schools and the public were presented by Nancy and Mary Ann. After revisions they were approved for submission to John Doherty to disseminate to Principals, Teachers and PTOs, and to the press to be included in the Reading Patch, Chronicle and Advocate. Lynne gave Mary Ann a CD containing a Public Service Announcement that can be copied and aired by the RCTV. Cate presented a letter from Reading Antiquarian Society clarifying the dates of the two events for their grant for programs on mourning jewelry. The dates are October 23, 2013 and October 23, 2014. There was a motion to accept the dates. It was seconded and approved. Donna presented an invitation received from Mystic Valley Elder Services for their "Art Experience" exhibition in Malden on Tue. 9/30/14 at 4:00. There was discussion about the wording of the requirements for the grants on the town website. It was decided to replace, "to serve our community" with "take place in Reading" to be more explicit. In addition, applications and postcards will be distributed to the Library and Town Hall. Mary Ann suggested making use of the bulletin board at Bagel World as well. Meeting adjourned at 8:12 pm.
