Location: Lower Level Conference Room David Williams, member; Laurie Ann Sylvia, member; Gina Snyder, associate; Ray Porter, member; Michele Benson, associate; Ron D'Addario, member Members - Not Present: loan Boegel, member Others Present: Mike Schola Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Ronald D'Addario Topics of Discussion: Agenda Item: Review and approve minutes of recent meetings. The vote for last meetings minutes was postponed for our next meeting. Friends and Family Day: The committee decided to dedicate this meeting to prepare for Friends and Family Day which takes place on Saturday, June I e. We agreed that we will meet at 10 a.m. to prepare for the 11 o'clock opening. The day concludes at 3 p.m. Mike agreed to allow the committee to use his tent awning for the day. Due to family commitments, Mike will not be able to attend the event. His tent will be very helpful. Laurie Ann said the RMLD will bring a table for our use. Ron said that he would bring his aluminum table as well. The committee shared a variety of items which members brought for our emergency preparedness kit. The committee felt satisfied that we had enough items to present a sampling of emergency items. Items included a hand crank radio, flashlight, various can-good food items, whistles, can openers, water purity tablets, tape, water proof matches, etc .... Ron had a number of items on loan from REI for the day. He will return them after the event. Michele and Laurie Ann provided the handouts of emergency items as well as the Fire Chiefs Resident Guide for Emergency Preparedness. In addition, Laurie Ann and Michele will provide us with a large poster identifying our committee at F &F Day Page 1 1 Town of Reeding - Meeting Mlnuten Ron suggested that It would be a good idea to include residences in reducing peak loads although they are not the main users of electricity. Residents should be aware of the critical electrical needs and act on them. In this way, all of us understand the real need to conserve energy and share the pain. Resident Guide to Emergencles: The guide, provided by Fire Chief Burns, was reduced to 6 pages by re- formatting the information by Michele. Ron plans to write a brief quiz based on the Resident Guide for visitors at F&F Day with prizes for the correct answers in the form of Hershey Kisses. The committee also has Michele's granola bars left over from Earth Day to offer as prizes. Laurie Ann suggested that we have some kind of drawing with the winner receiving an emergency kit provided with the help of Home Depot. Some of the Items which Home Depot could provide would include respirator masks, first aid kits, duct tape, and basic tools. Ron will check out Home Depot to solicit their help. Mike said that he would include a mirror for the kit. He felt that this was a crucial item for communications. Michele will make a composite list of emergency items from the different government agencies. She will Include the emergency generator operation cautions that the chief suggested. Two kits are suggested: one for the home and one to go In the event of an evacuation order. Emergency kit for kids game: youngsters will choose which items should be included in an emergency kit, e.g. apples or apple sauce, water or coke, electronic game versus a coloring book, reading book, monopoly game, and a deck of cards. Other choices could Include Flip Flops versus a sturdy pair of shoes, and an electric can opener versus a hand operated can opener. Tent for our site at F &F Day: Mike will allow us to use his tent. He will give it to Ron prior to the event. Next meeting: Committee members should bring In any items that they wish added to our emergency kit. Ron : cards, crank radio, and crank flash light; Michele crank charger, Mike crank flash light. Library Plans: Joan will ask Ruth Urell for the library addition and design plans for us to review.
