HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-11-12 Adjourned Subsequent Town Meeting MinutesADJOURNED SESSION, SUBSEQUENT TOWN MEETING Reading Memorial High School November 12, 1981 353 The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, John W. Faria, at 8:00 P. M., there being a quorum present. The invocation was given by the Rev. Frederick E. Emrich of the Church of the Good Shepherd, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. ARTICLE 10. On motion of James R. Valentine it was voted that the Town reorganize ""' the Advisory Committee on Hazardous Waste authorized by vote under Article 37 of the Warrant for the 1980 Annual Town Meeting so that the Committee shall be composed of not less than eleven citizens of the Town of Reading to be appointed by the Board of Selectmen on or before June 30, 1982. The Advisory Committee shall advise the Selectmen regarding all aspects of the continuing development and removal of hazardous waste at the Industri- Plex 128 site in Woburn, and advise the Selectmen on other hazardous waste issues which may affect the Town of Reading. ARTICLE 9. On motion of John W. Price it was voted to take Article 9 from the table. ARTICLE 9. On motion of John W. Price, as amended by William C. Brown, it was voted to establish a committee of nine members to be appointed by the Board of Selectmen. Said committee shall have at least one member of the following boards; Board of Selectmen and the Board of Library Trustees, for the purpose of producing plans and estimates for converting the Highland School property for a Public Library and /or other Town uses, and that the sum of Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000) be transferred from available funds, to be expended by said committee to hire consulting engineers, architectural services, plans and surveys, and other expenses needed to accomplish the committee's purpose. ARTICLE 13. On motion of John W. Price it was voted that the sum of $113,000 be transferred from free cash and appropriated for the purpose of obtaining an in -house centralized computer system including site preparation, leasing and /or purchasing of hardward and software euqipment, training, conversion of current systems, and also including consultant fees, clerk of the works, and all other costs incidental thereto; said sums to be spent under the direction of the Board of Selectmen. 123 voted in the affirmative 0 voted in the negative ARTICLE 14. On motion of Paul E. Landers it was voted that the Town transfer from available f ree cash the sum of One Hundred Forty -Two Thousand Dollars ($142,000.00) and appropriate for the purpose of refurbishing the Reading Memorial High School Varsity Football Field and for the conversion of the existing cinder track to an all- weather resilient surface tract and field events area, including lane lines, appropriate crowd control fencing, drainage, and maintenance systems, and include all engineering fees, preparation costs, and all other charges to complete the project, such sum to be expended under the direction of the Reading School Committee. On motion of Douglas A. Cowell it was voted that this meeting stand adjourned to meet at 8:00 P.M. on Monday, November 16, 1981, in the Memorial High School auditorium.
