ADJOURNED ANNUAL TOWN MEETING
Reading Memorial High School June 8, 1981
The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, John W. Faria, at 8:00 P.M., there
being a quorum present.
The invocation was given by the Moderator, John W. Faria, followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag.
ARTICLE 30. Motion by Gail F. Wood for reconsideration of Article 30 as voted at the
Adjourned Annual Town Meeting on June 4, 1981, was voted in the affirmative by a vote of
140 in the affirmative, 5 in the negative, two - thirds vote required.
ARTICLE 30. On motion of Sandra J. Trainor as amended by Douglas A. Cowell and
Mary S. Ziegler it was voted the sum of One Hundred Three Thousand Two Hundred Thirty
Dollars ($103,230) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated for Health and Sanitation as
follows, each item being considered a separate appropriation:

ARTICLE 30. On motion of Carl H. Amon, Jr. as amended by Mary S. Ziegler it was
voted that the sum of Twenty -eight Thousand Dollars ($28,000) be transferred from
Cemetery Bequest Interest and the sum of Eleven Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty -five
Dollars ($11,835) be transferred from Cemetery Sale of Lots Fund and that the sum of
Eighty Thousand Five Hundred and Twenty -four Dollars ($80,524) be raised from the tax levy
and that said sums totaling One Hundred Twenty Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty -nine
Dollars ($120,359) be appropriated to the Cemetery Department to be expended under the
direction of the Cemetery Trustees as follows each item being considered a separate
appropriation:

ARTICLE 30. On motion of William H. Diamond as amended by Mary S. Ziegler it was
voted that the sum of Eleven Thousand Eight Hundred Forty -eight Dollars ($11,848) be
transferred from State Aid to Libraries Reserved, and that the sum of Three Thousand Seven
Hundred Thirty -eight Dollars ($3,738) be transferred from the County Dog License Account,
and that the sum of Two Hundred Eighty -two Thousand One Hundred Thirty -two Dollars
($282,132) be raised from the tax levy and that said sums totalling Two Hundred Ninety -
seven Thousand Seven Hundred Eighteen Dollars ($297,718) be appropriated to the Library as
follows each item being considered a separate appropriation:

ARTICLE 30. On motion of William J. Hughes, Jr. it was voted that the sum of Forty- Y:
three Dollars ($43.00) be transferred from Recreation Expense and that the sum of Sixty
Thousand Two Hundred Fif ty-f our Dollars ($60,254) be raised from the tax levy and that said
sums totalling Sixty Thousand Two Hundred Ninety -seven Dollars ($60,297) be appropriated
to the Recreation Committee as follows each item being considered a separate
appropriation:

ARTICLE 30. On motion of John F. MacDonnell as amended by Mary S. Ziegler it was
voted that the sum of Forty -three Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty -five Dollars ($43,785) be
raised from the tax levy and appropriated to the Council on Aging as follows each item
being considered a separate appropriation:

ARTICLE 30. On motion of Virginia M. Adams it was voted that the sum of One
Thousand Three Hundred Forty Dollars ($1,340) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated
to the Historical Commission for expenses.
ARTICLE 30. On motion of Paul E. Landers as amended by Mary S. Ziegler it was
voted that the sum of Nine Million Six Hundred Forty -nine Thousand One Hundred Sixty -nine
Dollars ($9,649,169) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated for the School Department,
and the sum of One Hundred Ninety -nine Thousand Four Hundred Sixty -six Dollars ($199,466)
received or to be received from Chapter 506 METCO Funds so called, and the sum of
Twenty -five Thousand Dollars ($25,000) received or to be received under Public Law 81 -874,
and the sum of Fourteen Thousand Three Hundred Twenty -two Dollars ($14,322) be
transferred from School Salaries, and the sum of Thirty Dollars ($30) be transferred from
School Expense, and the sum of Six Hundred Fifty -six Dollars ($656) be transferred from
School Special Needs Expense, and the sum of Fourteen Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars
($14,700) rerceived or to be received from Athletic Receipts, and that said sum totalling
Nine Million Nine Hundred Three Thousand, Three Hundred Forty -three Dollars ($9,903,343)
be authorized as follows:

ARTICLE 30. On motion of John B. Pacino it was voted that the sum of Two Hundred
Five Thousand Twenty -three Dollars ($205,023) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated
to the Regional Vocational School.
ARTICLE 30. On motion of Douglas A. Cowell, as amended by Mary S. Ziegler, it was
voted that the sum of Seven Hundred Fifty -five Dollars ($755.00) be transferred from the
Board of Public Works expense account and that the sum of One Million One Hundred Thirty -
six Thousand Four Hundred Thirty -nine Dollars ($1,136,439.00) be raised from the tax levy
and said sums totalling One Million One Hundred Thirty -seven Thousand One Hundred
Ninety -four Dollars ($1,137,194.00) be appropriated for the Board of Public Works as
follows: each item being considered as a separate appropriation:
Salaries for the Public Works Department $ 730,726.00
Energy Expenses for the Public Works Department $ 95,876.00
Non - energy Related Expenses for the Public Works
Department (including out of state travel not to
exceed $300.00) $ 310,592.00

r..• ARTICLE 30.On motion of Douglass L. Barker it was voted that the sum of One
Hundred Fifty -seven Thousand Dollars ($157,000.00) be raised from the tax levy and
appropriated for the removal of snow and ice, such sum to be expended by and under the
direction of the Board of Public Works.
On motion of John W. Price it was voted that this meeting stand adjourned to meet on
Thursday, June 11, 1981 at 8:00 P.M. in the Reading Memorial High School auditorium.
Meeting adjourned at 10:55 P. M.
