Old Business:
Administrator informed the Council that Kerry Valle, Case Manager, Social Services, will be
on maternity leave. Melissa Koster will be serving in the position during Kerry's leave.
Melissa has extensive experience including working at Merrimack Valley Elder Services.
Kerry is expected to return in February 2014.
Administrator reviewed the Holiday Meal Program for Thanksgiving 2013. Council members
including Erica Deane, Tom Procopio, Carol Oniskey and Administrator volunteered to
deliver the meals to home bound seniors in Reading from Christopher's Restaurant.
Administrator review the Holiday Meal Program for Christmas 2013. The options for meals
for homebound seniors included a discussion ranging from inexpensive to moderately
expensive to expensive meal plans.
A motion was made by Kevin Walsh to expend up to $300.00 from the Schroeder Fund for
the holiday meal program at Christmas. The motion was 2nd by Margaret Havey. The
motion passed 6 -0 in favor.
The Administrator reviewed the birthday cake programs for October 2013. A motion was
made by Erica Deane to reimburse Dolly DeRosa from the Burbank Fund $23.99 for the
birthday cake. The motion was 2nd by Kevin Walsh. The motion passed 6 -0 in favor.

Administrator detailed information from the Town of Reading concerning a presentation by
Independent Living Center of North Shore and Cape Ann.
Administrator reviewed the Thanksgiving Dinner to be held at Hillview Country Club on
November 23, 2013 inquiring as to a table for the Council on Aging members.
New Business:
Steve Oston presented highlights of the recent Town Meeting including the reorganization of
the executive branch of Town Government; the consolidation of the Recreation Department
and Community Services, enhancing the nurse advocate position; and confirmation of a
part -time clerk for the Department of Elder /Human Services. He also noted that Town
Committee members are supportive of Elder Services within the Town of Reading.
Administrator discussed a fundraiser entitled °A Belly Full of Laughs" for Mystic Valley Elder
Services. MVES is requesting donations for a "Reading in Reading" basket. The Council is
not to solicit contributions.
Administrator reviewed RCTV programming noting an upcoming presentation on the MOLST
Form detailing medical orders and health care proxy and DNR orders.
Administrator and Council Members discussed inviting new candidates to join the Council
including seniors, caregivers and adult children.
Administration and Council members discussed a variety of programming and planning
ideas.
Administrator reviewed the Reading Response Program relative to medical van services.
Administrator noted the January issue of the Pleasantries to include a need assessment
survey and invitation to serve on the Council on Aging.
