Meeting Minutes
Mrs Blodgett explained that she wanted the Boards help and permission to repair several Civil
War veterans' headstones in Laurel Hill, and to place five that did not have any marker. She
explained that there is a matching grant from the state. The grant requires that the applicant
must be a municipality or a non - profit, which she is not.
Bob explained that as a town, we could not use perpetual care funds, which are public funds to
repair headstones on a private lot. He also explained that the stones could not be repaired
without permission of next of kin. He will attempt to find them for permission. He did state
that the Board could declare them a hazard and then they could be repaired.
Frank Driscoll stated that as the Veterans Agent, he could apply for the five markers for the
veterans without any headstone or marker. The Board indicated that they would waive the
installation fee of $100 each and that would be an in -kind donation.
Bill Brown will work with Mrs Blodgett to find a source of funding. The application must be
filed by April 1, 2014.
Bob stated that there were 122 interments this year, 42% of which were cremations.
Bob gave the Board an update on the cemetery garage and that the overall study by Western &
Sampson has not been finished, it is expected at any time, hopefully in time for our next
meeting.
