May 11,1979.
On motion of James J. Sullivan, Jr. it was voted that this meeting stand adjourned to
meet at 8:00 P. M. on Thursday, May 24, 1979, in the Reading Memorial High School
auditorium.
Meeting adjourned at 11:10 P. M.
158 Town Meeting members were present.

ADJOURNED ANNUAL TOWN MEETING
Reading Memorial High School Auditorium May 24, 1979
The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, John W. Faria, at 8:00 P. M.
The invocation was given by Rev. Willard C. Arnold, followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag.
The Town Clerk read the Notice of Proposed Reconsideration of vote under Article 9
voted at the Adjourned Annual Town Meeting on May 21, 1979, and the Officer's Return
thereto, in accordance with Article II, Section 4 of the General By -Laws of the Town.
It was moved by William J. Hughes, Jr. that the following vote under Article 9 at the
Adjourned Annual Town Meeting on May 21, 1979, be reconsidered:
Article 9. On motion of Virginia M. Adams it was voted that the Town of Reading
appropriate the sum of $6,500.00 to the salary account and the sum of $750.00 to the
expense account of the Historical Commission. The total amount to be $7,250.
The motion to reconsider vote under Article 9 failed to pass.
ARTICLE 9. On motion of John B. Pacino it was voted that the sum of Two Hundred
Thousand One Hundred Ninety -Nine Dollars ($200,199) be raised from the tax levy and
appropriated to the Regional Vocational School.
ARTICLE 9. On motion of John W. Price it was voted that the sum of One Million
Four Hundred Fifty -Two Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars ($1,452,700.00) be raised from the
tax levy and appropriated for the Board of Public Works as follows: each item being
considered as a separate appropriation:
Salaries for the Public Works Department $ 803,077
Expenses including out -of -state travel not
to exceed $300.00 492,623
Snow and Ice Removal Salaries and Expense 157,000
Total 1,452,700
and in accordance with Chapter 41, Section 108 of the General Laws, the annual elected
officer's salary of the Tree Warden is hereby set at Four Hundred Fifty Dollars ($450.00)
effective as of July 1, 1979. The $450.00 is included in the Public Works salaries.
ARTICLE 9. On motion of John W. Price it was voted that the sum of Six Hundred
Eighty -Two Thousand Three Hundred Eight Dollars ($682,308) be raised from the tax levy
and appropriated for the Board of Public Works as follows, each item being considered as a
separate appropriation:
Salaries for Construction, Maintenance and
Operation of Water Works $ 274,120
Expenses for Construction, Maintenance and
Operation of Water Works including travel
outside the State not to exceed $300.00 408,188
Total 682,308

1979.

The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, John W. Faria, at 8:00 P. M.
The invocation was given by the 'Moderator, Mr. Faria, followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag.
ARTICLE 9. On motion of Douglas A. Cowell it was voted that the sum of Two
Hundred Seventy -One Thousand Dollars ($271,000) be raised from the tax levy and
appropriated for the Board of Public Works as follows, each item being considered as a
separate appropriation:
Salaries for Rubbish Collection and Disposal

Expenses for Rubbish Collection and Disposal

Salaries for Sanitary Landfill and Recycling

Expenses for Sanitary Landfill and Recycling

ARTICLE 9. On motion of Gail F. Wood, as amended by John W. Price, it was voted
*am that the sum of Eighty Thousand Dollars ($80,000.00) be raised from the tax levy and
appropriated for the purchase or lease by the Board of Public Works of the following:
One (1) sedan
One (1) van
Two (2) pickup trucks
Two (2) trucks G.V.W. 34,000 lbs.
and that the Board of Public Works be, and it hereby is authorized and empowered to sell, or
transfer, or exchange upon such terms and conditions as it may determine,
One (1) 1970 Chevrolet sedan
Three (3) 1971 Chevrolet pickup trucks
Two (2) 1970 Diamond Reo trucks G.V.W. 30,000 lbs.
and the proceeds from such sales, exchanges or transfers are to be appropriated in addition
to aforementioned Eighty Thousand Dollars ($80,000.00) for the purchase or lease of the
aforesaid equipment such sum to be expended by and under the direction of the Board of
Public Works.
ARTICLE 9. On motion of Gail F. Wood it was voted that the sum of Nine Thousand
Dollars ($9,000.00) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated for the purpose of
maintaining, improving and constructing Traffic Control Signs and Street Line Painting, such
sum to be expended by and under the direction of the Board of Public Works.
ARTICLE 9. On motion of James J. Sullivan, Jr. it was voted that the sum of Ninety -
Eight Thousand Dollars ($98,000) be transferred from the Municipal Light Operating and
Maintenance Account, and that the sum of Three Hundred Ten Thousand Two Hundred
Dollars ($310,200) be raised frorn the tax levy and that such sums totalling Four Hundred
Eighteen Thousand Two Hundred Dollars ($418,200) be appropriated for all insurance except
Group Insurance for Town employees, and that said sum be expended by and under the
direction of the Board of Selectmen.
