ADJOURNED ANNUAL TOWN MEETING Reading Memorial High School Auditorium May 21, 1979 The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, John W. Faria, at 8:00 P. M. The invocation was given by the Rev. Russell J. Collins of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. ARTICLE 9. On motion of William J. Hughes, Jr. it was voted that the sum of Sixty Three Thousand Eighty -Seven Dollars ($63,087) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated to the Recreation Committee as follows, each item to be considered a separate appropria- tion: Salary $37,775 "Ma Expense 25,312 Total $63,087 ARTICLE 9. On motion of John F. MacDonnell it was voted that the sum of $36,858 be raised from the tax levy and appropriated for the Council on Aging as follows, each item to be considered a separate appropriation: Salary $20,708 Expense 8,650 Hot Lunch Program 5,500 Elder Home Care 2,000 Total 36, 858 ARTICLE 9. On motion of Virginia M.Adams it was voted that the Town of Reading appropriate the sum of Six Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($6,500) to the salary account and the sum of Seven Hundred Fifty Dollars ($750.00) to the expense account of the Historical Commission. The total amount to be Seven Thousand Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($7,250) On motion of Eugene R. Nigro it was voted to lay Article 9 on the table. On motion of Eugene R. Nigro it was voted to take up, in advance, Article 32. Now ARTICLE 32. On motion of Eugene R. Nigro it was voted that the Town accept Chapter 71, Section 71E, St. 1977 C.639; an act having to do with receipts and expenditures of monies by the School Committee in connection with the conduct of adult education and continuing education programs. On motion of Eugene R. Nigro it was voted to take Article 9 from the table. ARTICLE 9. On motion of Eugene R. Nigro it was voted that the sum of Eight Million Eight Hundred Ninety -One Thousand Five Hundred Ninety -Six Dollars ($8,891,596) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated for the School Department, and the sum of One Hundred Fifty -Nine Thousand Two Hundred Dollars ($159,200) received or to be received from Chapter 506 M.E.T.C.O. Funds so called, and the sum of Thirty -Five Thousand Dollars ($35,000) received or to be received under Public Law 81 -874, and the sum of Thirteen Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars ($13,800) received or to be received from Athletic Receipts, and the sum of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000) received or to be received from Adult Education Receipts, and the said sums totalling Nine Million One Hundred Two Thousand Five Hundred Ninety -Six Dollars ($9,102,596) be authorized as follows: General Salaries - Regular Day School $ 6,977,424 Less: METCO 101,900 $ 6,875,524 Special Needs Salaries 481,149 Adult Education Salaries 12,000 Less: Adult Education Receipts 3,000 9,000 General Expenses (Including Travel Outside %OW State Not to Exceed (5,520.00) 1,299,896 Less: METCO Chapter 506 57,300 Public Law 81 -874 35,000 1,207,596 Special Needs Expenses (Including Travel Outside State Not to Exceed $500.00) 274,227 Athletic Expenses 57,700 Less: Athletic Receipts 13,800 43,900 Adult Education Expenses 200 $ 8,891,596 150 Adjourned Annual Town Meeting May 21,1979. On motion of James J. Sullivan, Jr. it was voted that this meeting stand adjourned to meet at 8:00 P. M. on Thursday, May 24, 1979, in the Reading Memorial High School auditorium. Meeting adjourned at 11:10 P. M. 158 Town Meeting members were present. A true copy. The invocation was given by Rev. Willard C. Arnold, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The Town Clerk read the Notice of Proposed Reconsideration of vote under Article 9 voted at the Adjourned Annual Town Meeting on May 21, 1979, and the Officer's Return thereto, in accordance with Article II, Section 4 of the General By -Laws of the Town. It was moved by William J. Hughes, Jr. that the following vote under Article 9 at the Adjourned Annual Town Meeting on May 21, 1979, be reconsidered: Article 9. On motion of Virginia M. Adams it was voted that the Town of Reading appropriate the sum of $6,500.00 to the salary account and the sum of $750.00 to the expense account of the Historical Commission. The total amount to be $7,250. The motion to reconsider vote under Article 9 failed to pass. ARTICLE 9. On motion of John B. Pacino it was voted that the sum of Two Hundred Thousand One Hundred Ninety -Nine Dollars ($200,199) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated to the Regional Vocational School. ARTICLE 9. On motion of John W. Price it was voted that the sum of One Million Four Hundred Fifty -Two Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars ($1,452,700.00) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated for the Board of Public Works as follows: each item being considered as a separate appropriation: Salaries for the Public Works Department $ 803,077 Expenses including out -of -state travel not to exceed $300.00 492,623 Snow and Ice Removal Salaries and Expense 157,000 Total 5 1,452,700 and in accordance with Chapter 41, Section 108 of the General Laws, the annual elected officer's salary of the Tree Warden is hereby set at Four Hundred Fifty Dollars ($450.00) effective as of July 1, 1979. The $450.00 is included in the Public Works salaries. ARTICLE 9. On motion of John W. Price it was voted that the sum of Six Hundred Eighty -Two Thousand Three Hundred Eight Dollars ($682,308) be raised from the tax levy and appropriated for the Board of Public Works as follows, each item being considered as a separate appropriation: Salaries for Construction, Maintenance and Operation of Water Works $ 274,120 Expenses for Construction, Maintenance and Operation of Water Works including travel outside the State not to exceed $300.00 408.,188 Total 682,308
