Topics of Discussion:
School Improvement Plan - A draft of the school improvement plan was handed out. We
went over each of the 3 goals and looked at how it was related to improving the teaching
and learning of the students of Joshua Eaton. Under the OTHER section below are some of
the questions that were raised around the School Improvement Plan.
Class Size - What are the class sizes in the building? The class sizes in the grades K- 2 fall
under the suggested sizes of 18 - 22 grades 3- 5 are between 23- 25 students per class.
The question was asked if the new apartment complexes in our area would impact the class
sizes. The process for new families registering for school was explained. The
Superintendent's office balances the classes.
School Budget - We will be entering budget session for the FY15 school year. More
information will be provided at the November.
Other - Question was raised about was consequences can replace the loss of recess at the
elementary level. A discussion about possibly having a lunch time detention was raised. This
would give the students the opportunity to take part in recess. Buy in from the teachers and
additional volunteers for the cafeteria would be needed to have this be a successful plan.
Karen will address this suggested plan at a staff meeting and we will follow up with this at
the next School Advisory meeting. As a group we will look at restructuring our lunch and
recess plan. We will look at schedules to have recess before lunch in hopes of having
students eat more of their lunches instead of eating too quickly just to get out to recess. We
will focus our time to work on improving the flow of buying lunch in the cafeteria.
Next Meeting - We will look at consequences that are appropriate for students at the
elementary level. We will also discuss the ways that we move students through the line at
lunch in a more productive way.
