READING SCHOOL COMMITTEE MINUTES JUNE 20, 1984
Call to Order
Chairman Coco called a special meeting of the Reading School Committee to order at
7:30 p.m., on June 20, 1984, in the Central Office Conference Room. All members
were present except Mr. Nigro. Superintendent Wells was also present.
Ratification - RTA Contract
Chairman Coco explained that this meeting had been called for the purpose of voting
on ratification of the RTA Contract, adding the teachers had unanimously voted to
ratify the day before.
Mr. Allen gave an explanation of contract changes, as shown in Attorney Allan
Drachman's letter of June 12th.
Mr. Nissen suggested that an interpretation of the agency service fee be obtained
from Attorney Drachman.
Chairman Coco read a statement to the Press about the Agreement, highlighting the
major areas of the Agreement.
Mr. Allen, as a member of the Negotiating Subcommittee, stated that the Subcommittee
recommended that the full Committee accept the proposed agreement.
Mr. Nissen moved, seconded by Mrs. Philbrick, and it was voted unanimously, that the
Reading School Committee ratify the Contract between the Reading School Committee
and the Reading Teachers Association as shown on Document B -1 -a.
1984 -85 School Calendar
Mr. Nissen moved, seconded by Mrs. Philbrick, and it was voted unanimously, that the
School Committee approve the 1984 -85 School Calendar, as shown on Documents B- 1 -b(1)
and B- 1 -b(2).
Proposition 22 Subcommittee
The Chairman named Mr. Nissen and Mr. MacDonald to a Subcommittee for promoting the
amending Proposition 22.
Adjournment
The Committee adjourned by unanimous consent at 7:50 p.m. The next meeting is
scheduled for July 2, 1984, at 6:30 p.m.
