READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
MINUTES SEPTEMBER 23 , 1985
Call to Order
Chairman Allen called to order a regular meeting of the Reading School
Committee on September 23, 1985, at 7:06 p. m. , in Room 127 of Reading
Memorial High School. Present, in addition to the Chairman , were
Committee members Mr. Coco, Mrs. Philbrick and Mr. Shannon, Superin-
tendent Wells and Assistant Superintendent Winslow.
There were approximately 22 visitors, all of whom are teachers .
Approval of Minutes of September 9, 1985
Mr. Coco moved, seconded by Mr. Shannon, and it was unanimously voted
to approve the minutes of the meeting of September 9, 1985 .
Bills and Payrolls
Warrants for bills and payrolls were approved as follows:
Bills
September 20, 1985 - General Expense - $44 ,051 .75
September 27 , 1985 - General Expense - $39 ,394 .17
Payrolls
September 19 , 1985 - Teachers - $308 ,942.72
September 20, 1985 - Weekly - $25 ,559 .00
September 27 , 1985 - Weekly - $28 ,060 .80
Articles for November 12th Town Meeting
Chairman Allen read the following proposed Articles for the Town
Meeting of November 12, 1985:
( 1) "To see if the Town will vote to accept Section 13 of Chapter 188
of the Acts of 1985 relating to professional development grants ,
or take any other action with respect thereto."
( 2) "To see if the Town will vote to accept the minimum salary pro-
visions of Section 40 , Chapter 71 of the General Laws of Massachu-
setts and the corresponding provisions of Sections 16 and 17 of
Chapter 188 of the Acts of 1985 relating to said minimum salary
provisions , or take any other action with respect thereto. "
Mr. Shannon moved, seconded by Mrs. Philbrick, and it was unanimously
voted that the Articles , as read, be submitted for the November 12,
1985 Town Meeting .

Bids - Coolidge Middle School Roof
Mr . Winslow recapitulated the bids for the Coolidge Middle School
roof , noting that of the ten companies which requested specifications ,
nine submitted bids . He recommended acceptance of the low bid ,
submitted by Caesar' s Roofing .
Mr. Coco moved, seconded by Mr. Shannon, and it was unanimously voted,
on the recommendation of the Administration, that the contract for the
Coolidge Middle School roof be awarded to the low bidder , Caesar' s
Roofing, 31 New Salem Street, Wakefield, for $156 ,715 .
Adjournment
At 7:14 p. m. Mr. Shannon moved, seconded by Mr. Coco, and it was
unanimously voted to adjourn.
