All members were present except Barbara Philbrick. Also present were Superintendent Robert J. Munnelly; Assistant Superintendents Lynn M. Bak and Ronald A. Winslow and Attorney Allan Drachman. SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES Attorney Allan Drachman- presented the School Committee with a memoranda outlining the effects and legalities the Town of Reading is facing with the present negotiations with the R.T.A. Two options, a delayed opening of school or a lock -out, were opposed by School Committee members and rendered unconsiderable alternatives by all members. Attorney Drachman suggested, therefore, that the meeting scheduled for August 31st be the School Committee's final offer to the R.T.A. Attorney Drachman discussed with the School Committee the possibility of strike in Reading. He also discussed the option of binding arbitration and the effects a step like that may have on a town like Reading. There was a period of questions and discussion. Carol Lyons made a motion that the School Committee deliver their final offer to the R.T.A. at the meeting on the 31st, with approval to also propose binding arbitration if that offer is declined. The motion was seconded by Richard Coco. The vote was unanimous. ADJOURNMENT At 8:15 p.m, the School Committee unanimously voted to adjourn from the Special Meeting.
