HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-06-21 School Committee Minutes14 READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS Reading, Massachusetts SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING REGULAR SESSION MINUTES 21 JUNE 1993 CALL TO ORDER Chairman Matthew Cummings called the regular meeting of the Reading School Committee to order at 7:32 p.m. in the Superintendent's Conference Room at 82 Oakland Road. All members were present as were Superintendent Robert J. Munnelly, Interim Assistant Superintendent Susan Wheltle, a reporter from the Chronicle, members of the Assistant Superintendent Screening Committee and several members of the community. MINUTES There were no minutes presented at this meeting for approval. BILLS AND PAYROLLS The warrant for Bills was as follows: June 21, 1993 - Bills - The warrant for Payrolls was as follows: June 18, 1993 CITIZEN INPUT - Biweekly - $37,313.89 $116,214.04 There was no Citizen Input to be addressed at this meeting. SUPERINTENDENV'-S:REPORT Superintendent .Munnelly announced that Sally Mu.cica, a teacher at Birch Meadow School, is one of eight "finalists" for Massachusetts Teacher -of- the =Year. She will be interviewed at the Massachusetts Department of Education this week as the selection process proceeds on. Dr. Munnelly' ' informed the School Committee of graduating senior Philip Vaccaro, Jr's selection as a Boston Globe Scholar Athlete. An impressive I writeup appeared in the Sunday Globe and each of the winners were honored a an awards banquet. To this date, two parents have volunteered to relocate their children from Barrows fourth grade classes to other schools. The School Committee has agreed to take up further discussion at its June 28th meeting. REGULAR SESSION MINUTES -2- 21 JUNE 1993 VISITORS The School Committee interviewed three finalist candidates for the Assistant Superintendent position. They were Susan Wheltle, Dennis Richards, and Dr. Kilburn Culley. After the three one -hour interviews, members of the School Committee shared their perceptions of the candidates with the Superintendent. The Superintendent will have a recommendation at the June 28th meeting. ADJOURNMENT The School Committee adjourned to Executive Session.
