Chairman Matthew Cummings called the open meeting of the

NEW BUSINESS
FY 1994 BUDGET
Mr. Cummings explained that the School Committee would examine
the impact that a possible Proposition 2 1/2 override would
have on the fees charged to participants of the school
athletic and music programs. He briefed the School Committee
and the public on Town Manager's and Selectmen's override
concept outlining the proposed override of $2,5000,000:
$1,002,274 40.1% (Trash)
$1,009,700 40.4% (38K short of level service
budget and salaries)
$ 204,000 Capital Projects
$ 284,000 Municipal Operations

Utilizes all of the $2,500,000. Includes operating
expenses that have been presented for FY94 and adds
in the salary increases.
Chair Cummings added that another factor in the overall school
budget equation is the state sponsored Education Reform Act,
which could return as much as $465,000 to the Town for
lowering the levy limit. For discussion purposes, Mr.
Cummings present- ed the Town Manager's proposal of how we
could handle the $814,000 if Education Reform passed as
follows:
$60,000
$70,000
$30,000
$90,000

The concensus of the School Committee if the Education Reform
Act does not pass is that the portable would then need to be
included on the warrant and that fees for athletics and music
also be funded out of the $1,009,700 as priority for passage
of the override.
