SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
LONG RANGE RETREAT MINUTES MAY 31, 1994
CALL TO ORDER
Chair Roberta D'Antona called the School Committee's long
range retreat meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. in the Central
Office Conference Room. All members were present with the
exception of George Shannon, who was expected to arrive later,
and Matthew Cummings. Also present were Superintendent Robert
J. Munnelly and Assistant Superintendent Dennis Richards.
PRIORITIES - SY 1994 -1995
The School Committee reviewed materials written at their last
retreat session and decided to focus attention on major goals.
1. School Climate - Intimidation Free Schools - Safe, healthy
environment
. Education /Professional Development
. Accountability
Take the lead - Be proactive
Needs to be positive
. Action
. Examine existing policies
. Separate Sexual Harassment from Harassment
Directives to Administrators - Expectations - Each
school's effectiveness
Avenues to encourage communication
School Councils will be invited to report on this issue
School Committee can act as a sounding board for
parents with concerns
(Timeline - Administration to report to School Committee
by the end of the first quarter.)
2. Performance Assessment
Direct administration to explore ways of gathering
parent and student input as part of evaluation
process.
. Good businesses collect information from the customers.
3. Funding - Securing Sources
. Set goals for 1989 levels?

ADJOURN
At 10:45 p.m. George Shannon moved to adjourn. Thomas
Stohlman seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
