SCHOOL COMMITTEE RETREAT
LONG RANGE PLANNING RETREAT MAY 14, 1994
CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chair Timothy Twomey called the School Committee Long
Range Planning Retreat to order at 8:12 a.m. in the Super-
intendent's Conference Room. All members were present with
the exception of Roberta D'Antona, who was expected to arrive
shortly and George Shannon. Also present were Superintendent
Robert J. Munnelly and Assistant Superintendent Dennis
Richards.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS
The School Committee discussed what they hoped would be the
results of their discussions. Thomas Stohlman summarized some
of the comments of the members in attendance when he stated he
wanted to identify specific goals, timelines, responsible
people, and ways to assess progress. The School Committee
listed their nine priorities:
Intimidation Free Schools
Educational Goals - Curriculum - Professional
Development Plan
. Funding - Securing Sources
Performance Assessment
. Policy Review - Book Revision
. Communication - Parental Concerns
. Advisory Council Plans
School Facilities Issues
. Contract negotiations - Training for School Committee
On Educational Reform
They then spent the rest of the morning elaborating education-
al goals, funding, performance assessment of staff, school
climate, communications and contract negotiations.
