SCHOOL COMMITTEE MINUTES
JOINT BOARDS NOVEMBER 1, 1995
CALL TO ORDER
Chair Matthew Cummings called the Joint Boards meeting to order in the Reading Memorial High
School Library at 8:45 p.m. All School Committee members were present with the exception of
Timothy Twomey. Also present were Superintendent Dr. Harry K. Harutunian, Assistant
Superintendent Dennis Richards, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner, the Finance Committee
and the Board of Selectmen.
COLLABORATIVE BUDGET PROCESS
Mr. Hechenbleikner opened the meeting with comments on the collaborative budget process.
Mr. Blewitt facilitated the discussion and collected comments made by those in attendance.
Members of each board made comments on the Town Manager's summary of the Proposal for a
Collaborative Budget Process.
Mr. Hechenbleikner recorded changes to his summary that outlines the steps in the budget process
the School Committee, Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee will follow as a working
model this year.
Mr. Stohlman proposed accepting the Budget process as amended. Ms. Cavicchi seconded the
motion. The vote was 5 -0.
The Finance Committee and the Board of Selectmen left and the School Committee continued
with their meeting.
WAIVE FEES
Mr. Spadafora moved to waive the rental fee for the Reading; Patrolman's Association meeting on
November 12 1995. Ms. Cavicchi seconded the motion. The vote was 5 -0.
Mr. Spadafora moved to waive the rental fee for the Understanding Handicaps meeting on March
8 1995. Ms. Cavicchi seconded the motion. The vote was 5 -0.

Mr. Stohlman moved to ratify the Secretarial Contract Ms Cavicchi seconded the motion The
vote was 6 -0. Ms. Cavicchi, Mr. Cummings Ms. D'Antona Mr. Spadafora Mr. Stohlman Mr.
Hechenbleikner
ADJOURN
At 10:29 a.m. Mr. Spadafora moved to adjourn to executive session for bargaining discussion
with union and non - unions and character of individuals The vote was 5 -0
