HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-03-20 School Committee MinutesREADING PUBLIC SCHOOLS READING, MASSACHUSETTS SPECIAL SESSION MINUTES MARCH 20,1995 CALL TO ORDER: Timothy Twomey called the Special Session School Committee Meeting to order at 7:40 in the Superintendent's Conference Room. All members were present. Mr. Twomey welcomed the candidates for the Superintendent's Screening Committee. He explained that the meeting would deal with a single agenda item. He stated that the Screening Committee shall consist of eight members, four of which will be educators and four citizens not educators. Mr. Twomey introduced the candidates as: 1. Maureen McDonald - Mrs. MacDonald attended Salem State College and Boston College. She is a parent, an educator and Town Meeting Member. She is a co- advisor for the 1995 RMHS Yearbook. She served on RMHS principal search committee. 2. Nancy Drexler - Ms. Drexler attended U.Mass, and U. Maryland. She is currently employed, by her own firm, conducting educational research and evaluation involving innovative schools and programs around the country. She has been involved in a search before but not with a consultant. 3. Nancy Stager - Ms. Stager is currently employed by The Bank of Boston as a Senior Human Resources Manager for Global Products. She graduated from Cornell in 1982. She was involved in the Joshua Eaton Principal Search. 4. Robert K. Sullivan - Mr. Sullivan is a professional recruiter. He is solely interested in the search to identify the best possible candidate to maintain excellence in education in Reading. He holds degrees from Villanova and Boston College. Mr. Cummings and Mrs D'Antona left at this point. 5. Keith R. Manville - Mr. Manville has been the Principal of Beverly High School for the past eight years. He holds a Doctor of Education from Boston University. Mr. Manville work on the Search Committee for Dr. Piechota. 6. Dennis J. LaCroix - Mr. LaCroix is a partner in a Boston Law firm. He holds a J.D. and an A.B. from Boston College. He has a daughter in the first grade at Killam. 7. Marlene McArdle - Mrs. McArdle is a Special Needs teacher in Stoneham. She has a Masters Degree in Moderate Special Needs from Lesley College and a B.A. in Elementary Education from Boston State College. She was involved in a Principal Search last year. SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES 2 MARCH 20. 1995 Superintendent Screening Committee Candidates Continued: 8. Joan Coco - Mrs. Coco is the parent of two children who are products of the Reading School System. One child has Special Needs and the other, an honor student. She has extensive knowledge of the School Department and Town Government. 9. Alan S. Mosier - Mr. Mosier is a Music Teacher in the Reading Public School System. He holds degrees from Salem State College, Berklee College of Music and Lowell State College. He does not reside in Reading. He does not has Search Committee experience. 10. Everett J. Roscoe - Mr. Roscoe is a Social Studies Teacher in the Somerville School System. He was raised and educated in Reading Schools. He attended University of Lowell and Fitchburg State College. He does not have screening committee experience. 11. Stan Nissen - Mr. Nissen has served on three screening committees. He has been a School Committee member. He is currently seeking election the School Committee. 12. Joan McKinnon - Mrs. McKinnon is currently a teacher at the Killam School. She was not present at the interview. Mr. Twomey thanked all of the candidates for attending. MR. SHANNON MOVED TO ADJOURN AT 9:15 MRS. CAVICCHI SECONDED THE MOTION. THE VOTE WAS 6 -0.
