Home My WebLink About1995-01-24 School Committee MinutesReading Public Schools Reading, Massachusetts SCHOOL COMMITTEE PUBLIC HEARING Superintendent Selection Criteria January 24,1995 Minutes CALL TO ORDER Chair Timothy Twomey called the Public Hearing of the Reading School Committee on the Superintendent Selection Criteria to order in the Reading Memorial High School lecture hall at 7:30p.m. Tim Twomey, Tom Stolhman, Matt Cummings and George Shannon were present. Robin D'Antona was expected to arrive later. Also present was Assistant Superintendent Dennis Richards. PUBLIC HEARING The following documents made available to the audience: Superintendent Evaluation Policy, Superintendent Evaluation Form, Superintendent Job Description and the 1994 -1995 School Committee Goals. The chair reminded the audience and cable viewers that they could call School Committee members with their ideas or send written comments on the next superintendent. The following is a summary of the comments made at the meeting. The superintendent should be a person who is: An Educational Leader, Dynamic, Flexible, A Strategist/ Tactician, A Decision Maker, Visionary, Here for the Long Term, Here for the Short Term, A Fiscal Manager, A Communicator, The Best Person, A Bottom Up Leader, Experience with Challenge, Believable and Educationally Proactive. The superintendent should be a person who can: Empower People, Understand K -5 Needs, "Shake Up the Boat ", Ensure Accountability, Identify Resources, Sell the System, Collaborate with Others, Use Fiscal Support Staff, Develop Consensus and Write Grants. Reading School Committee Open Hearing Minutes: January 24,1995 - 2 The superintendent should be a person who is ready to address the following issues: Ethnically Diverse Staff, Global Competition, Technology, Educational Reform, National Competition, Social Issues and Foreign Language.
