SCHOOL COMMITTEE /BUILDING COMMITTEE April 13,,1998
Chair Twomey called the School Committee to order at 6:35 p.m. in
the Career Center at RMHS. Present were School Committee Members
Cavicchi, Dahl, D'Antona, Stohlman and Twomey. Also present were
Superintendent Harutunian and Associate Superintendent Richards.
Chair Graham called the School Building Committee to order at
6:36 p.m.
A discussion was held regarding the School Committee's memorandum
to the School Building Committee regarding instructions for the
architect to be hired by the School Building Committee for the
elementary school project.
The School Building Committee asked for clarification on the
following items:
1. The first paragraph states 60,000 square foot school where
did that figure come from and the figure for the size of the
parking lot?
Chair Twomey advised the School Size and Enrollment
Committee recommended a 24 classroom school, the figure is
taken from SBAB guidelines. The parking lot area should be
sufficient for 600 student school. Mr. Stohlman said the
report of the Elementary Enrollment Committee actually has a
smaller square footage and that the SBC should refer to the
actual report for more accurate numbers.
Chair Graham advised that he would be asking members of the
School Size and Enrollment Committee to attend a School
Building Committee meeting to give input. After the
information is received from the SSEC, will begin the RFP
process. Dr. Harutunian, Chair Graham and the DPW will work
together to draft the RFP.
2. Clarification requested on the item listed as safety /health
issues and student well being.
Chair Twomey advised that School Committee wanted
traffic /pedestrian safety looked into. Ms. Cavicchi stated
also concerned about dust etc. during renovation/
construction.

Ms. Cavicchi requested that the in the last bullet item on the
memo the word problematic be replaced with the word programmatic.
Chair Twomey asked whether the School Building Committee would be
posting a schedule of their meetings.
Chair Graham advised that once the School Building Committee
meets with the SSEC and the Superintendent a list of meetings
will be posted.
Dr. Harutunian stated that the administration requests that the
RFP be completed by September 1, 1998 to meet the time line for
fall town meeting.
Chair Graham advised that the School Building Committee needs
administrative representative and teacher representative on the
Committee.
Ms. D'Antona made a motion to adjourn at 6:48 o.m. Ms. Cavicchi
seconded the motion. The vote was 5 -0 Ms. Cavicchi, Mr. Dahl,
Ms. D'Antona, Mr. Stohlman and Mr. Twomey.
