HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-05-30 School Committee MinutesReading School Committee Reading, Massachusetts Regular Session May 30, 2003 CALL TO ORDER Chair Dahl called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m. in the Superintendent's Conference Room. Present were School Committee Members Carpenter, Cavicchi, Dahl, McFadden, Russo and Spadafora. SUPERINTENDENT CANDIDATE INTERVIEW The Committee interviewed Superintendent Candidate Patricia Ruane using questions discussed and added questions. Candidate Ruane gave a closing statement to the Committee. The Committee took a brief recess. Chair Dahl called the meeting back to order. Mr. Kirtman discussed with the Committee the benefits of site visits. Mr. McFadden stated that in the interest of moving the process along the Committee put forward two names they want to move forward in the process. The Committee discussed the candidates. Mr. Carpenter spoke favorably on the candidacy of Dennis Richards. Mr. Russo stated that he was not ready to move only two candidates forward. He stated that he needed further information on the candidates. Mr. McFadden made a motion to move Patrick Schettini and Patricia Ruane forward in the interview process. Mr. Spadafora seconded the motion. The vote was 5 -1 Mr. Carpenter, Ms. Cavicchi, Mr. Dahl, Mr. McFadden and Mr. Spadafora voted ves Mr. Russo voted no. The Committee discussed scheduling site visits on Tuesday or Friday and conducting a second round of interviews on June 9th. After discussion it was agreed that Mr. Spadafora would coordinate the site visits, and Mr. Kirtman would schedule the interviews with the two candidates for the 9`h Mr. McFadden advised that the Senate passed language in the budget to have Reading Memorial High School put on the SBA list. Regular Session 2 May 30, 2003 EXECUTIVE SESSION Ms. Cavicchi moved to enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing strategies relevant to the Superintendent's contract, not to return to regular session. Mr. Carpenter seconded the motion. The vote was 6 -0 Mr. Carpenter, Ms. Cavicchi, Mr. Dahl, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Russo and Mr. Spadafora. ols
