HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-05-29 School Committee Minutesam Reading School Committee Reading, Massachusetts Regular Session May 29, 2003 CALL TO ORDER Chair Dahl called the meeting to order at 4:50 p.m. in the Superintendent's Conference Room. Present were School Committee Members Carpenter, Cavicchi, Dahl, McFadden, Russo and Spadafora. Also present were Lyle Kirtman and Superintendent Harutunian. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT Dr. Harutunian discussed the revised lease agreement with the Board of Selectmen for the area known as the Birch Meadow play area. irman to enter into the area known as the Birch Meadow play area as it appears in the packet of Mav 29` ". Mr. McFadden seconded the motion. The vote was 6 -0 Mr. Carpenter, Ms. Cavicchi, Mr. Dahl, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Russo and Mr. Spadafora. Dr. Harutunian advised that there were no incidents at the high school today regarding the threat. He updated the Committee on the police presence at the high school for the day. He stated that 635 students were absent and 234 were present. Chair Dahl passed out the format for the interviews. Mr. Kirtman reviewed the do's and don'ts for interviewing. The Committee discussed questions and who would ask the questions for each of the candidates. The Committee discussed the possibility of doing site visits and second interviews of candidates. The Committee interviewed Superintendent Candidate Patrick Schettini using questions discussed and added questions. Candidate Schettini gave a closing statement to the Committee. Chair Dahl informed Mr. Schettini that the Committee would discuss the candidates after tomorrow evening's meeting and determine whether they would do site visits. He stated that the Committee hopes to have an idea of where they are headed by next week. The Committee took a brief recess. Regular Session 2 May 29, 2003 Chair Dahl called the meeting back to order. The Committee interviewed Superintendent Candidate Dennis Richards using questions discussed and added questions. Candidate Richards gave a closing statement to the Committee. Chair Dahl informed Mr. Richards that the Committee would discuss the candidates after tomorrow evening's meeting and determine whether they would do site visits. He stated that the Committee hopes to have an idea of where they are headed by next week. ADJOURN At 8:30 p.m. Mr. Spadafora moved to adjourn. Ms. Cavicchi seconded the motion.
