Buildina Project Update (Rum Urell)
• Ms. Urell reported on developments with the Temporary Space for the Library Building
Project. A working group with Library, Trustee and Town representatives, in addition to
Evan Warner from STV, have met to review and discuss the proposals submitted as of
September 9, 2013. Ms. Urell presented one proposal that best meets the scope of the RFP.
Points raised for Trustee consideration are:
o The library is willing to move into a less finished or "rough' space, lowering the
cost of a build out;
o The working group has inquired about the cost for additional, unfinished space for
storage, which would allow access to more of the collection and possibly reduce
anticipated storage costs;
o In order to maximize the proposed space, the working group is investigating the
option to move all non - public service operations to another town location, such as

the third floor of the Police Station. This would include Administration and
Technical Services;
o During construction the library may consider adjusting open hours and exploring
the use multiple locations in town facilities for programming and library services.
These efforts reflect the commitment by the Reading Public Library and Board of
Trustees to continue to provide high quality library services and fully utilize staff
during the construction process.
• Reading Town Counsel and Town Manager are reviewing the Contract drafts for
architectural services. At minimum, the architects would like to have a letter of intent this
week so the process can continue to move forward.
Trustee Vacancy
• The trustees reviewed current requirements of the Trustee by -laws. Ms. Urell will look in to
further detailed requirements from the Town.
Trustee New Business /Old Business
• Alice Collins and Vicky Yablonsky reported attending the September 24 Selectmen's
meeting. The Selectmen opened a hearing regarding the Town Manager's proposed
reorganization and reclassification of the town hall employees. The Trustees expressed
concern about how these changes affect library staff compensation and morale. Trustees plan
to meet with the Town Manager and one of the Selectmen, to discuss the issue.
