Topics of Discussion:
School Improvement Plan - what is it? How do we use it? What should we add to It? We
discussed adding a focus on math. With the use of a new math program it would be
beneficial to address the concerns that have already been noticed with the math ability of
students. There will be a goal developed around respect that will coincide with the MISS
work that is being done at the district level.
Class Size - What are the class sizes in the building? The class sizes in the grades K- 2 fall
under the suggested sizes of 18 - 22 grades 3- 5 are between 23- 25 students per class.
The question was asked if the new apartment complexes In our area would impact the class
sizes. The process for new families registering for school was explained. The
Superintendent's office balances the classes.
School Budget - We will be entering budget session for the FYIS school year. More
information will be provided at the October meeting.
Other - question was raised about school plays being something that could be considered
for the students to have more experience with public speaking and performing. The idea of
having an IPad in the cafeteria to create a separate line for "cold" lunches to help move the
"hot" lunch line along. Further conversation with Kristen Morello would be needed for this
topic. The date of implementation of the PARCC assessment was asked. The PARCC
assessment will be in 2 years.
Next Meeting - We will look at the School Improvement Plan that was developed.
