HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-05-14 School Council - J Warren Killam Elementary MinutesSchool Council Meeting Minutes 5/14/2013 Classes for next year: • fifth grade will have 4 classrooms Review of School Improvement Plan: RECEIVED TOWN CLERK ; ` A DING. MASS. I013 MAY 15 P IT 01 • We work in PLCs and have staff meetings to review our team and individual goals • For the 2013 -2014 school year, we will have a set of school -wide rules • We completed a school -wide survey in order to collect data on students' perceptions of their safety and "connectedness" at Killam. The School Psychologist and Mrs. Giles also developed a spreadsheet with all students' names and were cross - checked with each staff member and checked for students who are "connected" to staff members. • Common planning time for upper grade teachers will.be implemented for the 2013 -2014 school year. • We use Baseline Edge in order to organize all of our academic, social /emotional, and behavioral data in order to implement interventions for our students. • Killam School will implement at least 3 at -home computer based internet programs in order to provide academic interventions. (At this point we have Raz -Kids, Lexia and Extra Math) • By the end of the 2013 -2014 school year, all professional teachers will pilot the use of district - wide DDMs to track student growth and achievement. Each grade level will have at least 2 DDMs, including Fountas and Pinnell Benchmarking and DIBELS at the lower -grade levels. • Can we change the goal "During the 2013 -2014 school year, the principal will increase the productivity of staff /PLC meetings from the current level of 40 %" The idea of a "Walking School Bus" was discussed and we talked about how we are making progress on our goal to implement a before school walking program for at least 50% of our students to promote healthy living and brain -based exercise for all students. The parents at our meeting stated that they would like to do some research on the Walking School Bus idea in order to see if we could look at the town like a grid and map out a "bus route" for next year.
