DPW: Supt A. Fletcher
JOHN STREET INDUSTRIAL LAND
Chairman Rich presented the draft of a letter written by
Pam McKinney of MDM to DEQE asking for an informal review of the
land and its development potential and approval by DEQE.
Superintendent Fletcher said that he already had a sched-
uled meeting on Friday (Aug. 23) with James Hoyte and R. Cass of
DEQE and volunteered to bring the draft of the letter in a personal
informal manner. The Planning Board indicated approval of his
suggestion.
A discussion occurred as to what approval or non - disapproval
by DEQE would result in. No definite conclusions were reached
as there were too many indeterminates.
Fletcher stated that he has questions about the Hailey &
Aldrich report on the aquifer. He will mark up the report.
A point was made by Fletcher that site development cost
and drainage improvements already made by the town should not
be included under BPW in Table 8 & 17 but should be a separate
line item in 17.
D. Stroble (IDC) asked about eminent domain. The answer
was that it is a time consuming process and that Town Meeting has
never actually done it.
Question by M. Rich: What is best for the town in dollars
and other benefits, Example, split operations (for the DPW).
Answer by Fletcher: If we can't find one site, we can"t
find two.
Foot note by D Barker: Need a site where the DPW can
store and /or dispose of surplus or waste material such as pipe,
asphalt, etc.
Comment by Wood: The cost of delay with TASC, rent plus
maybe damages could be expensive.
It is apparent that there are only two other sites in twon
that meet minimum requirements and they both have problems, the
NIKE Site and Trancoa.
An idea was presented to ask for more assistance to put
quantitative numbers on these other 2 sites; land cost or loss,
tax revenue, etc.
At the conclusion of this portion of the meeting the
BPW representatives left.
HOUSING
Rich expressed the need for the town to look for alternative
type housing before the State in the future forces the issue.

JOHN STREET STUDY
It was suggested that M. Slezak contact P. McKinney to
discuss extending the contract for putting more quantitative
numbers into the 3A portion using specific sites.
This was moved by Trainor (2 -Wood) Passed.
Respectfully submitted,
John D. Wood, Clerk
