Ad Hoc STURGES PARK MASTER PLANNING COMMITTEE MINUTES
June 28th. 2012 — TOWN HALL CONFERENCE ROOM
Committee Attendance: J. Feudo (Staff Liaison), L. McGonagle, V. Sachetta, J. Jadul, L. Egan,
K.Vamey, G. Juffre
Also Attending: J. Bonazoli, D. Walsh
• Leslie McGonagle called the meeting to order at 6:42pm.
• J. Bonazoli: Gina Snyder, Cities for Climate Protection, came to Board of Selectmen meeting to
discuss Rain Gardens. Handout was shared with committee. Potential to have one at Sturges
• Park. PT3 option appeared to be the best option shown, but there might be a better location.
Need to work with location of playground Fast.
• J. Feudo and D. Walsh met with ConComm on June 27. Administrator is interested in working
with us. Was told that anything we take from Conservation, we have to give back in a 2:1 ratio
(e.g., if we take 18,000 sf, we have to give back 36,000 sf). J. Feudo shared a potential plan.
• Was Memorial Park a 2:1 ratio? Review what was done there?
• J. Feudo: Although the money is not available to do everything that we'd like to have done, we
should move quickly to come up with a master plan/recommendation to take to ConComm.
Within 90 days of a permit expiring, it can be extended (every year, if necessary). Recommend
that we do a site walk with ConComm, maybe before the plan is developed.
• Cat tails have to be left alone. Can we combine both areas into one?
• Check with ConComm/DP W to check out drain pipes
• Both committees to meet?
• Looking for volunteer to go through old town records to dig through records to find out what
kind of maintenance plan it had.
• F. Driscoll checking into deed for park's intended use.
• Would like to bring skating area up 2 to 3 feet, make it mowable.
• Make primary plans for play equipment

• J. Jadul suggested moving softball field — need F. Driscoll's input
® • Target date for playground: Spring 2013?
• L. McGonagle shared a Sturges Park survey that J. Feudo will post on -line.
• Create an e-mail account and maintain an e -mail distribution list — L. Egan to set up.
• J. Bonazoli suggested that we solicit Pulte Homes (Reading Woods).
• Post a project sign at park. D. Walsh shared a draft of sign. L. Egan to come up with text.
• J. Feudo to reserve the Senior Center or Library conference room for our next meeting, July 26.
Public will be invited. Use Everbridge to push out message to surrounding neighbors. Survey
will be sent out —2 weeks prior to meeting, and will leave up for —50 days. Will publicize
meeting in the local media.
• After the July 26 meeting, we should meet with Conservation.
• June 7, 2012 minutes were accepted.
• Meeting adjourned at 7:42pm.
