5th grade transition
1. Began with inviting 5th grade parents here at Parker or an initial orientation meeting
1. Parker students gave tours after the presentation
2. Another night is scheduled so that parents can hear from the teachers about eth grade and the curriculum.
This is on May 9th
3. In addition, we will have additional transition for the 12 students coming from Birch Meadow. This will include
having the students shadow 6th graders, hopefully from Birch Meadow.
4. Course selection is almost complete for 8th grade
1. Math has driven some high school course changes.
2. There are a couple of options for students to accelerate the math curriculum if students want to take
Geometry as a freshman.
1 Will students always have to take an additional summer or double up to get to Calculus? For now, yes. The
common core does not see calculus as a high school class so if students want to follow that track, they will
need to add a course to get to calculus.
4. Common Core Alg i- this will be the Gass for students in both 8th and 9th grade for Alg 1
1. In 8th grade, this class is populated with students who are identified at the end of 8th grade through
a series of assessments at the end of May and take the 7th grade course which feeds to it.
S. April 8th - There will be a meeting at 7:00 pm about math and the sequence at the high school - for all
parents, not just 8th grade.
