MINUTES
October 16, 2012
The meeting of the Reading Board of Health came to order at 5:30 pm in the Conference
Room of Reading Town Hall. Present were Board members Barbara Meade, David
Singer, staff Ruth Clay and Town Manager, Peter Hechenbleickner. Andrew Friedmann
was absent.
Minutes
A motion was made by Meade to accept minutes of September 18, 2012 with
amendments. Motion seconded by Singer; motion passed 2:0:0
Health Director's Report
• Clay advised peanut butter recall has become widespread involving more
products. Recall information will be sent to Board with updated products.
• Orange Leaf - Application process status remains unchanged. Building permits
issued for asbestos removal. Tenants must be out of space before further permits
for interior renovation work can begin.
• Oye's — Clay gave latest update from progress report provided by Oye's
consultant. Copy of report to be sent to board members.
Other business and items not reasonably anticipated at the time of posting:
• Clay reported there were 222 flu shots given at the Killam School Flu Clinic on
October 3, 2012.
• Maureen Buzby, Tobacco Control Coordinator will attend November meeting to
give an update on tobacco grant and compliance.
• 6 -11 Variety, formerly Gulf Express, 85 Main Street - The new owner of the
property who had been leasing for past 3 years applied for new permits. The
Board discussed waiving the fee as it was basically a name change only. Meade
made a motion to waive the fee, seconded by Singer; motion passed 2:0:0
• Clay advised the regulation on Keeping of Animals should be updated. A draft
regulation will be presented at next meeting.
• Following a recent incident involving underage drinking of 40 youths at a house
party resulting in 38 arrests, the Town Manager met with representatives of
Melrose, Wakefield and Saugus to discuss having common policies within the
surroundings towns in respect to alcohol and drug use.
