Hechenbleikner, Peter From: Frederick Van Magness <vanmagness@verizon.net> Sent: Monday, December 10, 2012 10:36 PM To: Reading - Selectmen Cc: Hechenbleikner, Peter Subject: Comments for Tomorrow's BOS Meeting 12/11/12 Dear Board of Selectmen, just read some of the packet data for tomorrow's BOS meeting. Following are my personal comments on proposed changes at Birch Meadow Drive and Oakland Road. I must have missed something, but I don't recall an unlimited amount of funds in Reading for road construction, especially round-a-bouts. If there is a drastic need for any improvements, the small proposed island at Birch Meadow Dr. seems possible. Anything more (round-a-bout, etc) seems a giant waste on money. I certainly cannot support a traffic circle type project. Given ALL the upcoming projects in Reading impacting tax rates, a tree lined center mall up Oakland road also just seems overly excessive. There is no driving need for this significant expense. This, in my opinion, would fall in the "nice to do" category, but it certainly does not fit as a "must do" in my opinion. And then there is the ongoing maintenance... grass cutting, trash pickup, plowing issues, etc. There are much higher road and sidewalk priorities in Reading than wasting efforts and town resources on projects like this. If there is this much extra money in the town budget for road projects, then let's not spend the funds and return these funds to Free Cash. Guess I just do not understand where our financial or work resource priorities lie when projects like these surface for BOS deliberation. Respectfully and sincerely, Fred Van Magness Sr. 243 Franklin St. Reading, MA
