May 23, 2012
The meeting convened at 7:15 p.m. in the Conference Room, 16 Lowell 'Street, Reading,
Massachusetts. Present were Selectmen James Bonazoli and Ben Tafoya, Town Manager
Peter Hechenbleikner, Prabha Sankaran, Nancy Snow, Alison Ullman and Jacalyn Wallace.
Alison Ullman was interviewed for a position on the Fall Street Faire Committee. She's
enthusiastic about volunteering for the community. Ben Tafoya noted that he would like this
matter on the Selectmen's agenda on June 5`h to get the position filled as soon as possible.
Nancy Snow was interviewed for a position on the Cultural Council. There are four vacancies
with only one incumbent requesting reappointment. Nancy is an elementary school librarian in
Andover and she and her family have been involved in the arts for a number, of years in Reading.
Prabha Sankaran is an applicant for the Human Relations Advisory Committee, Council on
Aging, Housing Authority and Recreation Committee. The Housing Authority and Recreation
Committee have incumbents requesting reappointment to fill all positions. The Human Relations
Advisory Committee has two vacant positions with only one incumbent requesting
reappointment. There are three applicants, one of whom is likely to be appointed to a different
Board. Ms. Sankaran indicated she would be willing to accept an Associate on the Human
Relations Advisory Committee. The Town Manager pointed out that Associate positions on
bodies like the Human Relations Advisory Committee fully participate in all discussion and there
are actually very few votes.
Jacalyn Wallace applied for the Human Relations Advisory Committee, the Contributory
Retirement Board, the Cultural Council and the Community Planning and Development
Commission. She might be interested in two different positions and the Volunteer Appointment
Subcommittee was thinking that the Cultural Council would be a good fit and there is a strong
need. The Contributory Retirement Board position appointed by the Board of Selectmen is not
vacant.
The Committee is going to have another meeting to finish interviewing and to finalize their
recommendations. The Town Manager will send an email to the two members of the Volunteer
Appointment Subcommittee to try to establish a date.

voted to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. by a vote of 2 -0 -0.
