Tuesday, May 8, 2012 RE .•,DIiiG, M, ", 1012 MAY I LI P I: SU Present: Katie Cole, Catherine Rice, Janet Faulkner, Cathy Giles Final Review of SIP: Cathy Giles presented the new data system to School Council. Together the council updated the progress towards SIP goals and inputed the data into the new computer -based data system. As the data was entered, the school council viewed the SIP 2011 -2012 binder which will be presented to Dr. Doherty and School Committee. Previous meeting's minute notes were accepted. The PTO will announce that school council is in need of one more parent representative for the 2012 -2013 school year. DRAFT: VISION STATEMENT It is five years from today and we have, marvelously enough, created our most desirable school. How would we describe our school ... as if we were able to see it around us? Curriculum Promote a child centered education environment focusing on whole child /student, lifelong learning and respect for others. Focus on the individual need of the student with a balance for curriculum and enrichment which will challenge each child to maximize their potential Assessment Our MCAS scores will rise to a level of P for all students Instruction Teachers instructional coaches for one another Learning Atmosphere JW Killam will practice and be an environmentally conscience learning center. Will have murals painted in our hallways Will have a new, safe play structure for our student Technology Laptops for 25% of our students Classroom lab times established for technology projects Leadership Shared leadership - leadership council Two year rotation assistant principal- promote teachers as leaders Mentors from other grade levels to promote collegiality Role of Family Parent Center trainings/ workshops for parents parents actively involved in daily classroom activities Community Partnerships Faculty, Students, Family and Community will collaborate to provide JW Killam Elementary School the necessary tools and environment to produce a superior educational environment preparing our students for learning in the 21 Century.
