• Mission statement of the school - should read like a bumper
sticker. Discussion around what we words we would like to have
describe the students and culture of our building. Shared the
"bumper sticker" that was created at a staff meeting last year.
Words were revised and agreed upon: Joshua Eaton Jaguars R-

Winter weather - lining up outside instead of being inside every
day. A long discussion on this topic. One fact was that last year
even though there was a good deal of snow the temperatures
were mild. The students could have been outside instead of being
in the building. This year with reduction of para hours the
supervision beings at 8:10 providing the students with 5 minutes
of supervised time outside. Parents at this meeting felt that it
was important to have children moving before starting their day
and having time to socialize. Here are the guidelines that will be
used to indicate that students will line up indoors: temperatures
below 20 degrees, rain and or snow falling during drop off,
conditions of the grounds (icy or too snowy). A blue flag will be
posted in the windows to indicate students will line up in doors.
PTO also agreed with these guidelines.
• Feedback on the report card - respectful pros and cons
Parents at this meeting provided positive feedback. They felt
that the standards were informative and gave a good indication of
what the students were learning. They did wonder about what to
do to challenge students to have them earn an E. Teachers
reported that once they got the hang of the entering the grades
it was not as bad as they anticipated.
• Homework - parent's point of view parents felt that there was
decent amount of homework. Felt that there was more in grade 4
than in grade 5. Felt that students were prepared for middle
school. The younger grades students could benefit from challenge
work for when the math units are "too easy ". The homework does
not take them long at all. They did not feel that the homework at
this level impacted their family lives. They did also indicate that
their children are not involved in many ofterschool activities.
