HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-03-15 Board of Health MinutesBOARD OF HEALTH MINUTES March 15, 2012 The meeting of the Reading Board of Health came to order at 5:40 pm in the Berger Room of Reading Town Hall. Present were Board members Barbara Meade, David Singer, Andrew Friedmann, and staff Ruth Clay. Minutes Motion made by Singer, seconded by Friedmann, to approve the minutes of February 16, 2012 as submitted. Motion passed 3:0:0 A motion was made by Friedmann, seconded by Singer to open the public hearing regarding revisions to Board of Health Regulation Section 9 of the Food Manager Certification Code. Following a brief discussion Friedmann made a motion to adopt the State Food Code as a local regulation and have the local regulation consistent with the State Code. Motion was seconded by Singer. Motion passed 3:0:0. Friedmann made motion to close public hearing, seconded by Singer. Motion made by Friedmann, seconded by Singer to open public hearing regarding revisions to Board of Health Regulation Section 22 Fee Schedule to be consistent with those of Wakefield and Melrose Boards of Health. Meade made a motion to adopt revisions to Section 22 Fee Schedule, seconded by Friedmann. Motion passed 3:0:0. Friedmann made motion to close public hearing, seconded by Singer. Other business and items not reasonably anticipated at the time of the posting Clay report that at recent MHOA meeting DJ Wilson advised that Boards of Health can now ban roll your own machines. The question arose as to how it would affect someone who already has this process in place. Clay will research. • At the next meeting in April, RCASA will be invited to give a presentation to update the Board. The draft regulations will include the ban on sale of tobacco products in pharmacies. Due to non compliance of BOH Regulation Section 16.4 Selling or Gift of Tobacco to Minors, an employee received a $50 fine per Section 16.10. This regulation will be reviewed to be consistent with Wakefield and Melrose. A training session will be offered for those businesses that have been in non- compliance in Reading and surrounding towns. A meeting was held in December with inspectors from Melrose, Wakefield and Reading to discuss the effectiveness of inspections. A proposed ticketing policy for enforcement of the Food Code was developed which should improve inspections. Board of Selectman Liaison, Ben Tafoya will be invited to next BOH meeting to discuss the proposed ticking policy. • State Vital Records reports that burial permits and death certificates hope to be going electronic beginning January 1, 2013.
