HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-05-30 Economic Development Committee MinutesEconomic Development Committee (EDC) Building Fagade and Signage Improvement Program Committee May 30, 2012 EDC Members in Attendance: Sheila Clarke (Chair), Michele Williams Others Present: James Bonazoli (Selectmen), John Weston (Chair- CPDC), Nicholas Safina (CPDC), Jessie Wilson (Staff Planner) Building Facade and Sionaae Improvement Program The committee reviewed and discussed each of the applications for the BFSI Program. The committee considered each applications strengths and how well if fit into the purpose of the program. It was agreed that the purpose of the selected projects should provide an overall improvement to the downtown and businesses. In addition, the committee agreed that the applicant selected should have the biggest impact for the money. Since the money for the program is limited the committee agreed that stipulations could be made on selected projects, that way the money could be used for multiple projects. In addition to discussing the applications, the committee discussed the timeline for the improvements. Applicants must be able to commit to the agreed upon timeline for project completion. After deliberation the committee agreed to distribute the grant monies up to half of the total project cost with a maximum of $10,000 as follows: - Atlantic Framing: Half of the project cost, up to $1,000. - 159 Haven Street, Mr. William Crowley: $1,000 for a blade sign. - 57 -59 High Street, Our House Design Build: $1,000 for window boxes and blade sign. - 1 Haven Street, Intent Architects: $500 for a wall sign. - 75 Haven Street, Matteo Gallo: $1,500 toward building facade. - 636 Main Street, Family Dental: $5,000 toward front facade. On a motion by Mr. Bonazoli, the EDC voted to allocate $1,000 to Our House for window boxes and a blade sign, $1,000 to Mr. William Crowley for a blade sign, half of project cost up to $1,000 to Atlantic Framing, $500 to Intent Architects for wall signage, $5,000 to Family Dental for front facade improvements, and $1,500 to Matteo Gallo for building facade improvements, from the SFSI Program Funds. Ms. Williams seconded the motion. Motion carried as follows: Our House — 5-0 -0 Mr. William Crowley — 5 -0 -0 Atlantic Framing — 5 -0 -0 Intent Architects — 40 -1 (Mr. Safina abstained) Family Dental — 40 -1 (Mr. Saline abstained) Mr. Matteo Gallo — 5-0 -0. Next Steps The committee agreed the next steps will be to send out the response letters. The selected applicants will then meet with the co -op designer by June 301". After they each meet with the designer, the applicants will meet with the BFSI Committee to review the final designs.
