Finance Committee Appointment Committee <br />June 23, 1997 <br />The meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, <br />Massachusetts. Present were Chairman Allan Foulds, FinCom Chairman Jim Keigley, Selectmen <br />Chairman George Hines, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner, and FinCom candidates Carol <br />Grimm, Larry Penta and Paul Kurker. <br />Ms. Grimm was interviewed first as an incumbent member of the Finance Committee who desires <br />to be reappointed. She noted that major issues facing the FinCom are continuing capital needs <br />and she hopes to continue with the Capital Improvement Advisory Subcommittee. <br />Paul Kurker has two young children, and is interested in schools and interested in continuing the <br />team work that has been established through the Budget Council. <br />Larry Penta noted that the schools were a priority for him. He wanted to help "straighten things <br />out." He would not be a rubber stamp for programs or projects. <br />On motion by Hines seconded by Keigley the following names were placed into nomination for a <br />term on the Finance Committee expiring June 30, 2000: Carol Grimm, Richard McDonald, Paul <br />Kurker, Larry Penta. Ms. Grimm, Mr. McDonald, and Mr. Kurker received three votes each and <br />were appointed to these terms. <br />On motion by Hines seconded by Keigley the name Larry Penta was placed into nomination for a <br />term on the Finance Committee expiring June 30, 1998.
