Ad Hoc Downtown Parking Committee Meeting <br />July 19, 2006 <br />The meeting convened at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Conference Room, 16 Lowell <br />Street, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were George Rio, Gil Rodrigues, Jack Russell, <br />Tom Quintal, Julie Thurlow; George Katsoufis and Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner. <br />Also in attendance were Sharon McGovern and Janice Jones. <br />The Town Manager reviewed the operating procedures for Boards, Committees and <br />Commissions. <br />The Committee discussed an outline of the Mission Statement and reviewed the <br />document establishing the Committee. Elements of the Mission Statement would include <br />understanding the existing supply of parking and other planning and regulatory issues; <br />understanding the need for parking as it may develop; developing alternatives to address <br />unmet parking needs, all with sensitivity to the abutting residential neighborhoods. <br />The Town Manager noted that one of the focuses should be to make the most of existing <br />parking by looking at shared parking. <br />There was a lot of discussion about what information exists, and the Town Manager will <br />pull that together for the Committee. <br />There was also discussion on identifying the issues. <br />On motion by Russell seconded by Rio, Gil Rodrigues was appointed Chairman of <br />the Committee by a vote of 6-0-0. <br />On motion by Rio seconded by Rodrigues, Jack Russell was appointed Vice <br />Chairman of the Committee by a vote of 6-0-0. <br />The group will circulate the production of Minutes among its members. <br />The Committee agreed to meet on the third Wednesday of the month, with the next <br />meeting being on August 16a'. The Town Manager will get a regular room schedule. <br />On motion by Russell seconded by Rio, the ad hoc Downtown Parking Committee <br />voted to adjourn their meeting of July 19, 2006 at 9:09 p.m. by a vote of 6-0-0. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Secretary <br />
