Annual Town Sleeting <br /> New High School Auditorium March 21, 1955 <br /> In the absence of the Moderator, the Town Clerk, Boyd H. Stewart, <br /> called the meeting to order at 8:00 P. M. and asked for nominations <br /> for a temporary moderator to act at this meeting. <br /> Kenneth C. Latham moved that Samuel H. Davis be elected to act as <br /> temporary moderator at this meeting. <br /> On motion of Kenneth C. Latham it was voted that the nominations <br /> be closed. <br /> On motion of Kenneth C . Latham it was voted that the Town Clerk <br /> be instructed to cast one ballot for Samuel H. Davis for Moderator <br /> to act at this meeting. <br /> The Town Clerk then cast one ballot for Mr. Davis to act as <br /> temporary morderator, and declared him elected. <br /> Mr. Davis was then sworn in, by the Town Clerk, as temporary <br /> Moderator. <br /> The new Town Meeting Members were asked to stand and be sworn <br /> to office.by the Moderator <br /> The warrant was partially read by the Town Clerk when on motion <br /> of Kenneth C. Latham it was voted to dispense with the further <br /> reading of the warrant except the Constable' s Return, which was <br /> then read by the Town Clerk. <br /> ARTICLE 2. The following report was read by Robert G. Clinch. <br /> The Planning Board respectfully reports progress in their <br /> assigned task of revising the Building Code for the Town of <br /> Reading. The Board believes that a final draft will be submitted to <br /> the Town Meeting at the regular meeting in March 1956. <br /> On motion of Kenneth C. Latham it was voted that the report be <br /> accepted as a report of progress and placed on file . <br /> ARTICLE 2. The following report was read by William H. Blandy <br /> REPORT OF COMMITTEE APPOINTED TO CONSIDER <br /> the NAME of the NEW HIGH SCHOOL <br /> The Committee reviewed the matter of a suitable memorial for the <br /> veterans of all wars and considered two proposals: <br /> 1. That the new high school building be named the Reading <br /> Memorial High School <br /> 2. That the auditorium in the new high school be dedicated to <br /> this purpose and named "Memorial Auditorium" <br /> On a motion duly made and seconded the majority of the Committee <br /> voted to adopt proposal number 1, namely that the building be <br /> named the Reading Memorial High School. The Committee feel that <br /> the provision of the memorial be a matter for the town with all <br /> expenses necessary for the establishment of this memorial to come <br /> from the tax levy or other available funds . And further if this <br /> report is accepted that a committee consisting of members of the <br /> School Committee and the Veterans Organizations work out the <br /> necessary details to provide for such memorial. <br /> Irving C.
