185 <br /> READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br /> Reading , Massachusetts <br /> SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING <br /> MINUTES March 3 , 1986 <br /> Call to Order <br /> Chairman Cliff Allen called the regular meeting of the Reading School <br /> Committee to order at 7 :30 p.m. on March 3 , 1986 , in the <br /> Superintendent' s Conference Room at 34 Gould Street. All members of <br /> the School Committee were present. Others in attendance included <br /> Superintendent Wells , Jim Roth , Music Director, Susan Wheltle, Art <br /> Director, Mary Malloy, from the Peabody Museum, Kaye S. Michelini , <br /> teacher at Coolidge Middle School , Eileen B. Litterio, teacher at <br /> Barrows School, Bernice Herrick, parent, Mrs . Kendra Cooper, parent, <br /> three other parents , and a reporter from the Daily Times-Chronicle. <br /> Approval of Minutes of February 18 , 1986 <br /> The Minutes of the February 18 , 1986 meeting were approved by a motion <br /> by Mn Nissen, seconded by Mrs . Philbrick . <br /> Correction of Mr. George Shannon' s name which was incorrectly written <br /> as William Shannon on Budget FY87 item was duly noted. <br /> Bills and Payrolls <br /> Warrants for bills and payrolls were approved as follows : <br /> Bills <br /> March 7 , 1986 - General Expense - $53 ,219 .92 <br /> Payrolls <br /> March 7 , 1986 - Teachers - $340 ,788 .96 <br /> March 7 , 1986 - Weekly - $ 27 ,835 .96 <br /> Citizens ' Input <br /> Mrs . Kendra Cooper, parent at Birch Meadow, spoke about an incident in <br /> the Daily Chronicle on Friday in regard to a child being approached on <br /> South Street to get into a car . She said she thought there was a <br /> tendency to belittle the absentee verification program and wanted to <br /> cite an example which was close to home in support of the program. <br /> Chairman Allen noted that the absentee verification program will be <br /> included in the agenda at the last meeting in March. Tentatively that <br /> will be a topic of discussion. <br />
