Student <br />Student Representatives Conway and Beaulieu reported that the students would be <br />reporting back to school Wednesday and that the fall sports season was underway.' <br />2. Liaison <br />Mr. Caruso stated that he along with Mr. Croft, Mrs. Janowski and Mr. Robinson <br />attended the opening staff meeting today. He also reminded members of the <br />committee of the site visits scheduled Tuesday evening at Killam and Birch <br />Meadow. <br />Mrs. Janowski reported that she had attended the recent METCO pool parry. She <br />said it was well attended and a great time. <br />3. Superintendent's Report <br />Dr. Doherty reported on the Ed. Jobs Funding. He feels that the district will take <br />a wait and see approach to use this funding because of the economical climate. <br />He will work with the administrative team to determine the best use of these <br />funds. This is a one time amount of money. <br />Dr. Doherty also reported on the Race to the Top funding that the state will be <br />receiving. Reading will receive approximately $36,000 over four years. <br />The Superintendent updated the School Committee on Medicaid funding. He <br />indicated that the state did receive funding but these funds may be allocated to the <br />rainy day fund. He will assume that we will not see any of this funding. <br />Dr. Doherty updated the School Committee on the elementary enrollment. He <br />indicated that he has been able to use the guidelines established by the committee <br />to place new students to Reading in school based on class size. There are still a <br />few hot spots. <br />Superintendent Doherty informed the School Committee on the status of statutory <br />provisions of section 2141 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, <br />(ESEA). They impose a number of obligations on districts with respect to Title I, <br />Part A (Title IA) and Title II, Part A (Title IIA) funding and the Highly Qualified <br />Teacher (HQT). Reading Public Schools has failed to reach 100% highly <br />qualified teacher for the past three years. The district is at 99% which translates <br />to 2 teachers that are not highly qualified. We are working with these teachers to <br />achieve highly qualified status. <br />Dr. Doherty updated the committee on two requests they had made at previous <br />meetings. He informed them that after school transportation for the METCO <br />students has been arranged. Working with the Council for the Aging, the students <br />will be transported by the senior van. The driver and fuel charges will be paid for <br />
