December 1, 2010 Reading Advisory Committee on Cities for Climate Protection Program
Committee Notes for December 1, 2010. 7PM (Next Meeting - December 15 at Town Hall)
Present were Ray Porter, Tony Capobianco, Joan Boegel, Ron D'Addario and Stephanie Anderberg.
` Meeting opening -Chair Ray Porter opened the meeting.
Minutes - The minutes of the November 3 and November 10 meetings were approved
Other Business to add to agenda - None. ; 4
Home Energy Efficiency Actions - Energy Panel library event: Small turnout but the event
offered good information. There was some overlap of information between presenters so Tony & Joan
expanded on the overlapped points, which was a nice complement to the earlier information. The library
has a grant, for which the committee had written a letter of support, to do such presentations. Blower
Door Parties: First party scheduled for 12/4 at 385 Summer Ave. It's a large house with 57 windows. Joe
Green staff are excited and scheduled 3 hours and promised to bring an IR camera. Second party
scheduled for January 10 at Michelle Mini's house. That's a Monday and we'll need some committee
member(s) to attend. A party at the Mattera cabin is also in the works for January. The Conservation
Commission is enthusiastic and very willing to invite many members of the public. We will suggest the
3 January Saturdays that are not on holiday weekends. We need one more party and have'a couple of
leads on that. The committee looked over a draft survey for blower door party guests, and discussed
potential for Green Sense articles on the blower door party follow-up and on Mass Save audits.
Business 1-2-3 Pledge - Ron got an email from the Reading Co-op - they were very happy
about the recent Green Sense article and mentioned that they are looking forward to participating in a
business roundtable. Ron will make some calls to the Chamber and the bank to see if we can get this
scheduled.
Climate Outreach Programs - There is a second idea for an author who might be a ,good
speaker (Dave Ropiek) who might be available either alongside Dianne or at a separate event. We could
have a panel of speakers, perhaps. Other ideas would be to have the speakers as a draw for a larger event
like the business roundtable or the workshop with other towns. We could also look at inviting the
speakers for a school event.
Climate Action Plan Updates -No updates.
Other Business - None.
