The committee
discussed how to recognize the school committee for taking action on this. We could also give them
copies of the pledge forms that were handed out at schools last year.
Pro-Shred - Traffic Hazard with Kids - Pro-Shred is a document shredding and recycling
service that was available and interested in coming to our Earth Day fair with a collection trailer for
residents to stop by and shred sensitive papers. This could be a nice attendance draw but there are
concerns about traffic management and safety around the bicycle event that would draw a lot of kids.
The committee had a brief discussion about the possibility of having a separate event with trailers from
different groups, to collect a variety of household recyclables and waste.
Action Item Yearly Goals Progress Updates - Earth Day Fair: No update.
School Climate Change Education: Ron D. & Gina visited an RMHS class. Students had spent time
looking at both sides of the climate change issue, and they asked questions and offered comments. One
student seemed interested in doing something more - perhaps she can help put Kill-a-Watt kits in the
school library and set up a contest for dropping families' household electric use. Maybe if the kits are at
schools, they could be part of a homework assignment or project. If kits go into school libraries, the
included written materials should be reworked toward a student's perspective.
MassRIDES: No update.
HEET: There is a Changemakers grant competition that might work for HEET or other ideas.
Joe Green - an energy efficiency contractor company - might be interested in helping with our idea of
blower door block parties.
