council on Aging Board Meeting <br />Reading Public Library <br />64 Middlesex Avenue <br />August 14, 1989 <br />Present: Lois Bond, Gladys Cail, Ruth Cogan, Frank Day, Dorothy <br />Foxon, Diane Guilfoyle, Ginny Lane, Linda Nordberg, <br />Fred Perry-Patrons, Loretta Spaulding <br />This special call meeting was convened by Chairperson Gladys Cail <br />at 6:35 P.M. <br />New Business <br />- letter of resignation was received from Irving Stackpole to <br />Russell Graham of the Board of Selectmen <br />- application received from Virginia Bizzaro for position on <br />Board of Directors for Elder Services - she will be interviewed <br />at the Board of Selectmen's meeting tomorrow night. <br />Budget for FY190 was updated by Ruth Cogan, Director of Human <br />Services Department. <br />Reading will be short $850,000 for FY 190. Municipal side will <br />take 60% of cut. School Department will take 40% of cut. The <br />final budget presented at Town Meeting on September 14 will be <br />$390,000 or $172,000 depending upon initiation of a trash collec- <br />tion fee. <br />Elder Services proposed cuts of $1750 would eliminate the produc- <br />tion of the annual Elderberries and $100 from the recreation <br />line. The elimination of van overtime is being handled by crea- <br />tive scheduling. <br />Discussion ensued on ways to raise revenues through increased <br />fees and/or through creative financing of programs and services. <br />On the Board, Above the Board, By the Board training meeting will <br />be held Thursday, September 28 at 7:30 P.M. All Board Members are <br />encouraged to attend. <br />Ruth went over open Meeting law. Whenever a quorum will be <br />present the meeting must be posted 48 hours in advance. <br />Old Business <br />Picnic at Peter Sanborn on Wednesday at 6:_00 P.M. Patrons for <br />Older Adults contributed $200 for picnic expenses. <br />
