6P_ <br />5 <br />FY '80 Budget <br />Review of the budget was tabled until Thursday, February lst. <br />There being no further business before the Board, the meeting <br />adjourned at 11:25 P.M. <br />Respectfully-submitted, <br />"i <br />G. Paynter <br />Minutes of the Meeting of February 1, 1979. <br />Chairman M. O'Brien called the meeting to order at 7.40 P.M. <br />with G. Paynter and B. Mitchel present. <br />Correspondence <br />Rural Development free newsletter subscription to continue. <br />Commuter Rail Improvement Program <br />Board met with Manager of Operations, Commuter Rail,` Mr. Eugene <br />K. Skoropowski Trains on Haverhill extension will run from <br />Merrimack '(Talley at peak hours only. Lawrence to Reading Station <br />off-peak buses running hourly are part of plan.- Buses will come <br />down Route 28 to Reading Station and return. Service projected to <br />begin nthe summer. Fencing for protection of trains and abutters <br />planned. Ticket station at Reading is planned. <br />Educational materials on railroad safety are available for public <br />distribution, at cost. <br />Woburn station at Route 128 is expected to meet-park-and ride need <br />of the area, so 128 station on Reading line is not anticipated. <br />FY '80 Budget <br />Fiscal '80 Budget reviewed and Chairman itemized suggested cuts, <br />including office supplies to $200.00; Postage to $150.00; and <br />Printing to $600.00. After discussion, 180 Expense Budget <br />requests reduced from $2025 to $1785, by reducing printing <br />account request from $740 to $500 and dropping plan to reprint <br />Zoning By-laws text next year. <br />Possibility of secretary-sharing, or summer speedy worker replace- <br />ment, as means of cutting salary expenses, discussed. A motion <br />was made and voted to authorize the Chairman to investigate these <br />alternatives. <br />
